    Hi There

I've recently (well for a few days now!) driven past a shrub that has quite large green leaves with dark purplish/redish flowers that look from a distance like fuscia. Its about 6-8 foot high and its currently growing behind a shop in an alleyway close to where I work. I've had a look at some identifiers on the internet and the closest thing I can find that looks like it is Wild Currant. I'm not sure whether it is or not as I cant seem to find any information on flowering times for this plant.

    Any Clues?

flowering currants are spring flowerers...fuchsias are flowering now, so maybe it is a fuchsia?

Otherwise, Aesculus' idea of Leycesteria formosa or Berberidopsis look good!

    Hi There

Thanks so much for these replies. I've googled a couple of your suggestions and it appears its the Berberidopsis you mentioned. Its such a lovely flower when I drive past it.

    Thanks very much indeed!
