    i helped a friend collect an dining suite today its quite old and its been stored for a few years,trouble is it got a little damp,what is the best way to clean it,its age is about 60 yrs not sure of the surface looks polished not sure,can he use meths to find out ? any ideas would be gratefully recieved,he intends to give it to a elderly couple who havnt got one

    Macleaf, I treat all our antique furniture with Linseed Oil at least once a year (I do it here because of the dry atmosphere) ...this feeds the wood .....a good rubbing down with a soft cloth with L.O. certainly won't do it any harm ....leave to soak in and then treat again, then simply polish it with a clear cloth ..... hth...M-L :cool:

    Macleaf,you need to get the wood dry first before you clean it.It needs to be put in a warm,not hot, airy room,so that the wood can dry slowly,then you can think about cleaning it.I will have a word with Mr Kandy about cleaning it [​IMG] [​IMG]
