Has anyone got one of these? They look kind of fascinating, like something from the Natural History Museum. I wondered if they are worth doing. Apparently the bottle used to contain sulphuric acid, was started in 1960 and was last watered in 1972. The plants are spiderworts. I like the idea of creating a little eco-system. Some people do it with desert plants too.
That must have been it. Tea is a good fertiliser and probably gave them a well-needed nutrient boost.
I agree. Both my grandads and several great uncles achieved 90+ years on this earth, and they were all noted for their obsession with fresh air. None of them smoked, and most preferred to be outdoors rather than in.
Well, my Granny reached ninety-something and she was bed-bound for many years in the house she was born in. Which just goes to show you can re-cycle air as long as your roots are good.
Back on subject though. These were quite popular back in the seventies and eighties, a sort of fashion item. They are not easy to plant up, but that achieved the glass also tends to condensate inside after a while which then makes it difficult to see the plants.
