@ViewAhead you should add it to your list. It's a temperate climate, nice beaches (if you're into that sort of thing), cost of living is much lower than here and they grow lots of fruit and veg (similar to ours) and are famous for the quality of their beef (if you're a carnivore), they have lots of cats and dogs as pets and they have a good healthcare system.

I think I should ask their government for payment for promoting them. :heehee:

This sounds very similar to how the British government carried on during covid, its not just a Trump "thing" although it seems most like to pretend all politicians are squeaky clean apart from him.

Which we know they are not, dont we?:roflol:

In his last "reign", Trump presided over the highest death rate from Covid in any country. His current choice of health czar - the idiot in the Kennedy family - is now presiding over cuts to vaccine programmes and other health services which will affect the USA citizenry for generations.

I know that no nation was prepared for dealing with the pandemic but some did better than others once lockdowns, distancing and vaccines were rolled out. You can't legislate for arrant stupidity on the part of people who did not follow the rules but in Trump's case it was very much a Let them die policy and a refusal to protect US citizens.

I've just googled "emigrating to Uruguay". Lots of interesting stuff to read. :blue thumb:

Given I haven't had a valid passport since 1997, and haven't been abroad since 1991, it is probably ambitious to think I am going to up sticks, but no harm dreaming. Wonder what their garden centres are like.

This is the view of one pharmaceutical chemist on this latest step.
              https://www.science.org/content/blog-post/mrna-crime
              This is his final paragraph:
"It is wrongheaded, it is deeply harmful to the efforts to protect the US and the world from the next pandemic (whenever it may come), and it is appallingly shortsighted. And it has a very good chance of killing people by delaying the development of an extremely promising technology that can deliver new vaccines faster than any other method we have. It is, in short, a crime. A crime of stupidity and arrogance, and it is completely self-inflicted. We, the American people elected these lying, incompetent fools and we elected the craven opportunists who confirmed nominees like RFJ Jr. to posts that they are totally unfit to hold. And here we are, getting the consequences of our actions good and hard, and that process is nowhere near finished. I am not a religious man, but God help us all."
Having read his regular columns for a long time I can say he is one of the most level headed, balanced commentators out there.

You can normally take your state pension to any country but a few years ago they stopped you getting any increases in it if you became a resident of another country. I don't know if that has changed.

@shiney we are fully paid up for our British pensions and get the increases. However, that may be because we are in France and therefore subject to the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement allowing Brits resident in Europe before 2020 to stay there with rights.

He claims that the mRNA vaccines don't work on upper respiratory infections but the National institute of health found that roughly 14.4 millions lives were saved worldwide in the first year of covid vaccination, with about 120,000 of those in the US. There were some deaths attributed to the vaccine but a tiny percentage of those that had it were affected by complications.

These are the countries where you can get your UK state pension, but it will be frozen. Seems an odd collection in some ways, but there we are. The gov moves in mysterious ways its wonders to perform. :)

My Aunt who died recently had lived in Australia since 1986, her pension was frozen at UK rates, so was fairly low, but there was an agreement that the Oz government would make up any shortfall to the Oz pension rates, as I understand it.

No @pete You can take your pension and it won't be frozen - at least that's the case for those of us who were here before 2020. You'd need to check it now but if EU countries aren't listed above you can assume your pension will move with UK changes.
