It could be the nail we are looking for in The House of Lords coffin, bunch of unelected cronies, mostly, that think they are above everyone else.

Doubt it; the Yammuna like most of the great rivers of the subcontinent has it's a source in a Himalayan glacier. The Thames is fed from the chalk springs of the Cotswolds and such like.
The Thames might be polluted but you are unlikely to see partially burned corpses floating down it.

I don't understand how anybody can swim in either of them without personally adding to the number of corpses.

I can never understand why anyone would want to swim in the rivers or the sea for that matter especially mid winter.

Not just in mid winter either given the state of our waterways and coasts. I doubt whether any employees of the water companies indulge in "wild water swimming".
Related in a way ......... some of these illegal rubbish dumps..........one in particular - Oxford ? - where a couple of men have been accused of dumping rubbish and the council are saying they want to make them pay for clearing it. £10 million I think. With those sort of profits no wonder it has become such a booming industry.

Even as a child, I didn't really like sea swimming. The first view was fantastic - all that open space, the movement of the waves, etc - but actual contact brought home the reality. Cold, unpredictable, vile to taste if you accidentally swallowed any, etc. What with that and the inevitable toe injuries due to accidentally slicing through your foot with a metal spade, made it all more fun in the imagination than actuality. Of course, the proximity of ice cream vans was most welcome!

They have pushed the price of getting rid of rubbish up so high that this kind of thing becomes profitable, along with dumping the odd lorry load down some country lane. They never think about how really green all these things are.

Or as certain houses do around here, just throw it in the front garden or better still just outside the front fence.

I have never swum in the sea again since I was lucky to be able to do so in Bermuda.

Soft pink sand and warm sea. However the sea there is very rough with fairly sizeable waves. I had my bikini on and had a lovely tan so I thought I was looking cool. So there I am in the sea where I was standing up in it knee deep, so not too far out. I turned to wave at my friend on shore and suddenly a big wave came from behind me and bashed me head first downwards beneath the wave. It knocked the air out of my lungs so I automatically sucked air and water in - not a pleasant experience. I stood up and was coughing and spluttering. I could see my friend laughing at me and pointing. Both bikini parts had been shoved downwards by the force of the wave, exposing everything. Completely naked and gasping for air I struggled to reassemble my clothing from around my ankles. Never again.
