Its a solid structure, if you just put rows of panels in a field and want it to last 20 30 years you cant just put it on something flimsy, its going to need a base of some kind.
I'm referring to solar farms, massive fields of panels.

But that suggests the land is finished forever, its just never going to become farm land again.
        Its lost.

There lies the problem, earlier windfarms can't always be used for future farms due to spacing needed for larger more efficient turbines, plus significant upgrades to the grid are needed. Just because an energy company is granted a permit to build and generate renewable energy, does not mean they will be granted again 25 years down the line on the same area of land. There is numerous on shore windfarms that will be decommissioned, with probably a good percentage of them leaving huge masses of concrete buried in the ground.

That may be the case, but a lot can change in the next 25 years and my crystal ball becomes more and more hazy as you go further into the future.

Interesting thought how does the US propose to put Israel back in it's cage?

Has Israel not been the tag that wags the US dog for a long time now? ;) Small numbers, but BIG money!

probably won't do it but the obvious answer is to stop suppling them.

Israel gives lots of money to US politicians, election campaigns, etc. There's your answer.

It also runs a "friends of Israel" group in the HoC, which over 80% of Conservative MPs belong it. Lots of financial incentives to do so apparently. (I don't know the membership numbers for the other parties.)

For hydro power you don't need a massive drop to generate it, they are know experimenting with adding things to the water to give it more kinetic energy. I believe sand made it much more efficient.
I've also seen local villages are building small hydroelectric plants using quite small rivers, which power a portion of the village. The entry costs aren't massive and they split it between those that want the energy.

There was a prototype for a wind turbine that looked like an igloo. I don't know what happened to it but it was basically a shape that could capture wind from any direction, with no moving blades. It's biggest plus was it could be scaled to fit on a normal house, or any building, was silent and didn't harm wildlife. I'm not sure what happened to it, probably it was in direct competition with massive corporations so didn't get off the ground.

I'm not sure how it would cost millions to remove concrete from solar farms. Surely they can just lay concrete blocks on the field and pick them up when needed. They don't need a massive, perminent base to sit on.
The solar fileds I've seen around here just have ground anchor posts, just screwed into the ground. The rest of the surface is left to grass and usually still used for sheep.
I'm not suggesting it's the best use for land but if a farmer has a guaranteed income for the next 25 years from it, rather than one that's not guaranteed from farming, who can blame them.

Not sure sand is a good idea, putting grinding material through the turbine seems a sure way to increase your maintenance costs.

I believe there is one in Totnes, or at least they talked about it.
You could get several mills with water wheels on a relatively short stretch of river, bot not sure they would be that efficient at generating electricity.

Sorry Nigel, that was a typo, I meant to write salts or something dissolved in the water.
