A different kind of 'Whaatt??' moment....
Just received an email from Amazon, detailing a book I ordered. Under the usual blurb about tracking was the following AI generated message:

      'Item hidden for privacy'

And the book? Somerset Maugham's 1915 novel 'Of Human Bondage'

Farage can't be any more dishonest that the shower who are currently supposedly running the country. In previous elections Reform and the LibDems have been seen as places to put a protest vote. I see the vote for Reform as 'A Plague on all your Houses' to the three major parties. Tory, Labour and LibDem. They have all proven themselves to be utterly incapable of running the country or telling the truth. On that basis why wouldn't people want to try something completely different?

Politics is all smoke-and-mirrors with all the parties there to ensure the wealthy have things organised in their favour. There are no parties that want to make society fairer, narrow the gap between the richest and poorest, etc. All the "we are on the side of the ordinary voter" is a load of tosh. They may grab one subject area (eg immigration) and make it a central theme for their campaigning, but nothing much changes if they get into power.

Various tinkering round the edges may happen, as long as it doesn't disrupt the wealth rise of the few. Unfortunately history shows this situation is extremely difficult to change. Law enforcement backs the gov, so crushing reasonable gathering of support against the status quo is fairly easy. Turning one group in society against another is a favourite tactic to hide the real problem.

The real problem is the blob, whoever runs the country they have to overcome the civil service which they always give up on due to the power they hold.

Nothing short of a massive clear out of dead wood will really change things.

And then you will be up against the unions as well.

I just read this post on social media:

"I don’t want plants in my garden. They attract insects. I want to be able to relax in my garden and not have to worry about things flying or crawling all about the place"

@ViewAhead The only party which claimed to want to narrow the gap between rich and poor was the Communist Party, and look where that ended! The certainly narrowed the gap for the majority, by making them all poorer. Still those at the top continued to live in luxury. The quote from Animal Farm sums it up. "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others".

"Claimed" is the important word there, @KT53.

Narrowing the wealth gap is actually fairly easy to do. You need an utterly transparent tax system that applies to 100% of the people 100% of the time, with zero loopholes. That alone would be a big improvement. You need all income (from work, investments, dividends, property, etc) taxed at least equally. You need laws about property ownership to ensure a few cannot amass a very unequal share. You need to dismantle the public school old boys' network and remove the influence of the Royals and the financial industry from parliament. You need to make lobbying MPs illegal, as it gives those with money and vested interests a bigger say over policy than the ordinary person in the street, which makes a mockery of democracy.

None of this would be difficult to do if the wealthy did not have such a stranglehold on power. All of it would be in the interests of 95% of the population.

Life can never be "fair". Genes, environment, all sorts of factors will influence the destiny of individual people. But the rules can be fair, the playing field levelled, so resources are more likely to be shared in a way that allows a decent standard of living (by which I mean good schools, secure housing and employment, wages that meet life's necessities whilst allowing some spare for hobbies or holidays or other things that make working hard worthwhile) for most.

                        :)

Reform reminds me of the SNP when they swept into power in Scotland when I lived there. The SNP despite all the pre election promises suddenly became clueless and everything went down the tubes.
