I was given a shrub? called a Lavender Tree. It was bought from a corner flower shop and had no info tag or anything. It is pruned as an upright ball with a long stem. I have searched the web and cannot find anything except that M & S sells them-no Latin name etc.. The true Lavender Tree is a huge African plant with waxy green leaves-completely different.

This one has sort of lobed, pointy grey-green foliage and when squeezed gives a lavender- like scent.

Can anyone tell me the Latin name and how I might care for it. (I have put it into a pot outside on the patio) [email protected]

[IMG] Hi Jeppo..........Welcolm to Gardeners Corner,it's a good place to be.
Your Lavandula sounds like IMO an ordinary lavender trained into what is called a standard, giving it a tree-like appearance.
It will be quite happy in the pot, plenty of sunshine, dont over water, and trim after flowering to maintain the shape.

Hello, Jeppo, and welcome from me too.

We've just been speaking about Lavenders, roders, elsewhere, and I may have to disagree with you because I think (only think) I've heard of a Lavender tree ... but I think (only think) it has nothing to do with Lavender.

I'm very busy tomorrow, Jeppo, but I'll try to do look this up by the evening.

    Thanks-

I now think it probably is a normal form of Lavandula-simply trained and pruned. It just seems to have leaves unlike any I've seen in lavender as they are lobed (pointed lobes) and slightly thicker than the typical. Otherwise tthe color is the same and scent also. There is no evidence of any flower possibility though-maybe it is more similar to Cotton Lavender???
