Orchid Advice

We have just fed our Orchid with Baby Bio indoor plant food...will it do it any harm and if it's ok, how often should they be fed?

I only feed orchids with very dilute feed, and then mostly high potash.
I tend to feed only three or four times a year.

Orchids IMO tend to survive with much less fussing than is often thought, I think it goes back to the early days when people grew basically wild orchid species.

Now days the ones that you buy relatively cheaply are much easier to grow.

Assume you are talking about the popular Phalaenopsis "moth" orchid ?

As Pete says they only need a very weak solution, though they do like being fed at least weekly with the right stuff.

For simplicity you can buy Baby Bio Orchid feed or if your want to get the best you can use something like the low cost Vitax Orchid Bloom feed while in flower, and Growth feed when waiting for the next flower spike to grow up.

Again without getting too involved, how you water is very important .

Do you wait until you can see the roots turning from green to a quiet light paper brown colour ?
Thats when you water, using room temperature water, and just pour it over the top of the pot and let it drain straight out of the bottom.

If its been too long without water, you can help revive the roots by standing the whole pot in water for 10 mins, then let it drain off any excess.

As always, never place it on a hot sunny summer windows cill, they will just curl up and die, semi shade is the best location.
