Raspberry Question

Could someone tell me when is the best time to cut down my raspberry plants which have stopped fruiting and how low do I cut them,The variety is Autumn Bliss.Also I am thinking of planting some more as I have the space so when is the best time to buy them and plant them.Not sure where to get them from I usually get them from my garden center but have just been looking in a couple of catalogues.

Anytime now is fine to cut them down right back to soil level, if all the fruits are gone.

We generally then add a good layer of garden compost over the top to protect against the worst of the winter.

We originally had Autumn Bliss which is good, but now have Polka which we find even better, so why not try some along with your existing Bliss.

Think its always better to order from a fruit specialist rather than buying pots from garden centers as you never know how long or how well they have been kept in those tight pots.

Its recommended to cut down Autumn fruiting raspberries ( primocane ) in late winter / early spring. But I just cut them down at the end of the season so I can get around, they come up this year no problem. I have three Autumn variety's polka - erika - joan j - they are all nice but polka is very productive with huge berries.

Summer fruiting raspberries ( floracane ) are pruned differently

 

I have Autumn Bliss and cut them down to the ground each winter as others have said.

Rather than buy more plants I pull out suckers and replant elsewhere. But could be good to try another variety too ☺️
