There was a place near here where they would rescue abandoned animals, cats mainly but also dogs horses and anything else too. It was a registered charity, and situated on an old farm.
They turned the out houses and barns etc into lovely places where the cats could live the rest of their lives, while having freedom to wander about the fields as well.
Dogs were often kept in the house where the people who ran the sanctuary lived, and they were taken for walks around the fields every day.

When I worked for the social services, if someone was going into residential care and couldn't take their cat, we would arrange for this place to take it, and we'd know it would be looked after well by the dedicated people running it.
I and other people I know have also rehomed strays and feral kittens in this place too, and they would never turn an animal in need away.

In time the people who ran the sanctuary become elderly, and eventually one of them died. The other one couldn't cope and had a bit of a breakdown, and went to stay with some friends in a near-by village.
The farm was left in the care of a "young couple" who the owners apparently knew and trusted, but this "young couple" disappeared, taking everything from the house and the farm, and all the animals have disappeared.

The charity also had two shops in local villages, and everything has gone from the shops and they are closed down. The people who worked in the shops know nothing about what's happened and everyone is in disbelief.

Apparently the police are doing nothing about it (no surprise there) but it has come to my attention that the 'charity commission', whatever that is, is looking into the matter.
I hope they catch these evil beings and they get what they deserve ... but I have my doubts about that. The world seems to favour and support evil.

Edit ... Please do not turning this into yet another political moany thread. There's enough of those here already, full of people grousing and complaining like there's no tomorrow. They're very boring.

That sounds pretty horrendous @Michael Hewett and I hope those responsible are dealt with. I'm only guessing but the Charity Commission - such as it is - can only investigate the matter if the sanctuary was a registered charity. Hopefully it was and the CC will get their act together:)

There are cruel people everywhere and I wish we all had the ability to foresee who they are instead of finding them out after they've done harm.

I hope they get caught and punished !

With no deterrent folk have learnt to do what the like regardless here in the UK/

We need more police to stop them and the courts to impose sentences and fines that deter.
Proper fines could easily pay for more police.

@CanadianLori whats crime like over there ? lower level crime like shoplifting and mobile phone grabbing have rocketed over here.

We are having a giant problem with criminal tourism. Porous airports bring in lots of car jackers, house breakers, human trafficking and our sympathetic courts have the backbone of a noodle.

And Mark Carney and his lot voted against not allowing those convicted of crimes here then claim refugee status.Get caught, quick claim you're now a refugee and live off the state.

I'm all for facial recognition etc being used if it will keep people sauntering in with only ill intent as their carry on.

Most of the professional shoplifters are non British gangs, phone snatchers tend to be of dubious origin as well, but you cant mention that because someone always shouts racist.

Our local shelter which is carefully scrutinized to make sure donations are not wasted and staff are kind have just, at the beginning of the month, received a $10 million dollar gift. They need bigger facilities and this will make that possible. :)

It's nice to see these very generous acts happen. It doesn't diminish the upset of "penny dreadful " operators but it does give back a bit of assurance that most of us are kind and caring and those with deep pockets do step up now and then.
