If anyone else suffers and is interested, there is a programme on BBC4 at 9.00pm tomorrow about this subject called 'longing for silence'.

Either of you had yourselves referred to the hearing clinic at the local hospital? I did and got myself issued with a white noise generator. It's just like a hearing aid and you wear it when the noise is bothering you. Simply it retrains your ear mechanism to become accustomed to the noise and thereby you stop hearing it. Simple, eh?

I can recommend it as my tinnitus was really bad but it WORKED!! After about 6-8 months I realised I no longer heard that awful buzzy-hummy sound that was driving me mental. I was told by the audiologist that this was the usual report he received.

BTW, one of the most well known sufferers was Graham Cole (Tony Stamp in The Bill) and he had a great outcome with the WNG as well.

    I meant Radio 4, sorry.
Thanks for that Daisees I know someone who tried 'Masking' and it didn't work, if this is different it may help. I have never seen anyone about it as mine is not severe, just a high pitched s(z)inging noise and have coped with it as such. Luckily unlike David I have only had it for four years, since coming out of a cinema.

Whenever I`ve spoken to the doctor about it I`ve always been told ( with a smile ) sorry there`s nothing we can do about it. I didn`t know about this WNG Daisees, will have to bring it up next time I visit the quacks. :D

Listend to the programme found it very interesting although the probe route is a last resort, I have trawled the web and there can be many reasons for it I think mine could be caused through a problem called tmj(temporomandibular joint disfunction)as I can make mine stop by moving my jaw, due at the hospital to see a specialist see what they think.

Unfortunately the programme seemed to stop halfway, there needs to be a follow up.
