Yes cameras everywhere, most just take fuzzy images that they then ask if we know this person, mostly its just a blob moving around.
Most of the cameras need to be dumped but I think they leave them as a supposed deterrent.

No cameras in our village nor in the nearest small town and very few cameras in the big town apart from some on a few of the big companies. There are, of course, a few speed cameras but a lot of speed camera signs with no actual speed cameras. :heehee:

There are CCTV cameras everywhere here. At least two in our road of 10 properties have cameras, which film down the road, not just their own property. The chap opposite has all his house covered (and the front of ours) so that when he is away, which is a lot, he can monitor it from abroad. These cameras have replaced neighbourliness.

And then there are the Ring doorbells filming everything. Lots of those down here. And why is it they go Ding Dong on the outside - I can hear my neighbours' doorbells in my back garden.

Who watches doddery old women like me fumbling with packets of Camembert to see their expiry date then faffing about with their two pence pieces trying to make it up to a quid?

The law needs sorting out regarding doorbell cameras, too many are just spying on neighbours.
They should only be allowed to focus on someone standing in front of the door if they really can't live without them.

Doorbell and any other domestic security cameras are illegal in France if they can "see" any part of a neighbour's property or the public highway.

Yes, I think they are here, here, if not should be, but I was on a jury a while ago and the main evidence presented was of what a doorbell camera filmed in the street and a fair distance down the road.

Likewise dash cams, I'm fed up being told if your not doing something wrong you have nothing to fear, I just don't like being spied upon by any individual that wants to.

Dash cams can be useful in the case of an accident. Again, in France, privavcy laws mean they cannot be used with audio activated as recording speech is an infirngement of privacy and they have to be positioed in a way that does not impeded driver visibility.

The only camera I have anywhere is the trail job I have to film my hedgehogs. I suppose it depends on where you live as to whether some of these Security cameras are really necessary or is it partly down to scare tactics or even yet another "must have" ? Not exactly energy free to run. Understandable if there is a lot of crime/ASB nearby but otherwise ??? Could also be useful if trouble arises with a neighbour - sadly not that rare an occurrence .

We bought a trail camera soon after moving here but never caught any wildlife on it, partly because we have fencing on 3 sides and hedgerow around all 4. Tried moving it about but gave up when OH lost the cable for charging the batteries. I may well set it up just on ordinary batteries to confirm we have two feline visitors every night. It'll be pointed at the catflap with no neighbours' property in sight so OK.

The night filming often picks up at least 2 different cats. Luckily they can't access the Hog's food box. Early mornings at this time of year catches plenty of birds too - Blackbirds and Wood pigeons often "pose" presumably in the hope they will become Celebrity Birds

Speaking about cameras, I like to wander through Earth Cam stuff sometime. Found a neat Irish pub with music once. Or I look for place we have been to see where they put the camera, or if there is on. One place we have been quite a few times is Key West, Florida, they have a Earth cam right outside the historic Sloppy Joes, can see folks coming and going been there often myself. Last time we went I stopped in front of the camera and greeted the world, whoever is watching, LOL.
And recently we know of the Eagle Cam going on watching the Eagles over in California hatching, they have fledged now, but returning for food that the parents are catching for them, lots of fish.

Hubby complained to the neighbour opposite who has a Ring doorbell that his video would pick up us coming and going from our garage. The chap later said he changed the field on it so that it only reaches the end of his drive. Not sure I believe him. When I set foot outside my front door I am on 2 doorbells and one CCTV. I am continually on camera.

We once had some yobs come down the road and they zapped the doorbells so that they did not record. Then they went round trying car door handles. But the worst was the two chaps on motor bikes who smashed their way in to the bungalow and demanded keys to their hot cars on their drive while they were lying in bed. It was captured on CCTV but the bikes were not found. So I don't blame people having CCTV round here.

My trail camera gives very good quality daytime videos and not fuzzy like the doorbell ones. I did think of getting another and strapping it to the wood beams by my front door. You can watch live via Bluetooth.

We do set our burglar alarm at night.
