What I meant @NigelJ was, why do they let them retire rather than charging them with offences that, if proven, would lead to their losing pension privileges and even freedom?

Because the level of proof to dismiss somebody is lower than the "beyond reasonable doubt" level for a criminal case. Probably a "balance of probability level" as in civil cases.

Just caught a bit of an interview with Kelly Osbourne who said her dad (Ozzy) had made an indelible mark on this planet which will never be erased!

    :loll:

Even accepting humans have an incredible capacity for overestimating their importance in the scheme of things, this seems a tad delusional.

Black Sabbath is widely acknowledged as one of the founders of Heavy Metal music, so their impact on music is still being felt. Love it or hate it, and it's not for me, you can't really ignore it or his importance to it.

For a generation or two, maybe @KT53. But he was hardly Michelangelo or Shakespeare ... and even their fame is not "indelible". Humans come, humans go ... and the day will dawn when we no longer exist. Any life left on the earth at that point is unlikely to sit around thinking about us.

I don't like heavy metal at all @KT53 and have managed to ignore it for decades. On the rare occasions it pops up on the radio in the car I switch channels.

The first “heavy metal” song could very well be The Beatles ‘Helter Skelter’ :)

We will all leave a "mark" of some kind if you count our bones/ashes - bit like the dinosaurs perhaps  You could also include the various bits of rubbish which we launched into space - I expect they will be around for a while yet.
As for the music icons, like anyone else who has achieved some sort of fame in their lifetime, it's impossible to predict whether or not they will be "remembered " for as long as the human race exists.

Dont think I've ever heard anything musical he wrote or performed either.
Heard he chewed the head off a bat at one point so I guess that's something to be proud of.

I saw Black Sabbath live at a gig in Middlesex before they became famous. Not impressed even though rock is my music genre.

Quite right Michelangelo was an Italian Renaissance sculptor, painter.
Whilst Shakespeare was a late Tudor playwright and poet.
And Ozzie was a 20th century Birmingham heavy metal musician, quite appropriate given Birmingham long history of metal bashing.
