Class definitely makes a difference if you are at the top end.
The old boy network is well known.

The kind of people who have reached their level of incompetence and are , Asked to resign, with a golden handshake, rather than sacked like the rest of us would get.

Their mates then set about getting them a nice plum job somewhere else.

Not sure I call the little town we have a "town" its a blink of an eye and you miss it. Like I said probably the town about 20 mins from me could have rats, I spend no real time there.
Around me is lots of woods and country settings thus we have Foxes, Raccoons, etc. Some folks say they have seen coyotes and I think I saw one. If there are any, the foxes would take care of them. We do have little field mice.

There is a strong, natural rat population in the business park where I work. The reason is that the park has a wrap-around nature reserve in there (which is quite nice :) ) and several ponds.

The area around the office building is very clean, no waste at all and neatly kept planting, but still the rats are a common sight around the car park.

Then again, we also see rabbits, phesants and other visitors calmly around the building. Once a family of swans stopped traffic when they leisurely crossed the parking lot.

      And once I saw a weasel :)

Rats are everywhere and that's fine for me, but I'm trying to reach an agreement regarding my house.

My sister in law nearly died last year having caught Weil's disease; most likely from rat urine contaminating their compost heap or something in their chicken run.

I've met and worked with a number of different people, from different backgrounds, with different life experiences. No idea what class any of them thought they were. I liked some and disliked others. Essentially they were just people just like me.
As Kipling put it "For the Colonel's Lady an' Judy O'Grady Are sisters under their skins!"

I always think there are at least two different types of rat, I see them living like squirrels out in the open just living off waste that people leave behind like other wildlife and then there is the sewer type of rat.
Never come across the second type.

There's been a huge dead rat lying at the bottom of my next door neighbours' garden for a couple of weeks now. The neighbours rarely go down there, especially at this time of year, so it looks like it will just be a skeleton by the time they find it.

A few weeks before that I saw a dead one lying on the footpath around the corner from my house, so I wonder if some local has been poisoning them.

I have seen them in the garden a couple of times in the past so I am careful with what I put out for the birds, and I have a squirrel baffle to stop them climbing the feeder after I caught one happily eating sunflower seeds at the top of it.

It has always fascinated me with regard to how people view supposed class differences. I have little doubt that the origin of class is a combination of ability and accumulated wealth. This probably built up to what, over the centuries, became what is the perceived and actual class system. For those people that had the ability or luck to accumulate wealth they would, naturally, want to pass that on to their offspring. I find nothing wrong with that.

For myself, I come from very poor stock (most definitely working class, in the current view) and lived in the less salubrious areas of London. Rats were commonplace in those areas.

My father was one of ten children (all ten lived in a three bedroom house with four adults - quite a cosy group :heehee:) and most of them worked hard to make a better life for themselves. Their children, my cousins, also worked hard to climb out of the poor situation we were born into. Most of us succeeded to a lesser or greater extent.

I bear no malice towards those born into a more favourable position than myself and have always worked to make life easier for myself and for those around me. I think I was helped by a voracious appetite towards books, our language and the accumulation of knowledge - not always successfully.

In my work I met all types of people from drug addicts, criminals, 'normal' people, titled people and celebrities and treated all of them with the same attitude that we are all 'people'. They all treated me the same way.

We all need to work at helping ourselves and others whilst living as best as we can manage.

I wish you all the best for the holiday period in this season of goodwill to all. :grphg:

I renewed my bathroom a month ago and took the toilet out and stuffed a bag in the open pipe, middle of the night I get woken up by rats trying to get past the bag so I get up and place a tile over the pipe but could still hear them scratching the tile
