The US Department of War newly released Defense Strategy(?) basically says the US military's main job is defense of the homeland and western hemisphere.
Who from? Unlike Europe which lives next door to it's enemies there is the US and what enemy, insurrectionists, left wing woke girly men?

I'm trying to figure out what a "western hemisphere" might be on a ball that rotates around a roughly North- South axis.

            Western Hemisphere - Wikipedia
The snag is that if you live west of the Greenwich Meridian you are in the western hemisphere and must bow down and worship the shining orange one.

Peace talks involving Russia, Ukraine and the USA are starting this weekend. Putin bombed Ukraine again last night. Is anybody actually stupid enough to believe that Putin will actually stick to any peace agreement? Anybody apart from the Orange One that is.

I disagree with Wikipedia, and possibly the rest of the world. To me West is a direction, not a location so if I look at the globe with Americas bang in the middle, then to the West is Pacific Ocean and a bit further on, China :old:

                I have spoken :heehee:

But Marco Polo went East along the Silk Road into Mongolia and if he had continued, rather than taking noodles back to Italy and rebranding it as spaghetti, he would have reached Japan and further East was nothing but salt water and the "edge of the world".
These days we know if he had gone further East he would have have reached California, Florida and eventually reached Europe again.

And Heinz would have got spaghetti before the Italians.

I think the reaction from Zelensky was born out of massive frustration. The talks and last few weeks have been ambushed by a mad man trying to destroy and threaten the world/alliances, before seemingly excepting a deal that they already had, when it should have been about Ukraine. All the energy and momentum defending Ukraine has come out of their allies, whilst they are having to deal with constant bombardments, no power and toilets that can't be used because the water has frozen solid. I would be frustrated as well.

Sorry, but that is not true. :dunno:

The boundary between east and west starts at a line drawn from our Warner's King apple tree to our Acer Katsura. Either side is East Shineyland and West Shineyland. North and South Shineyland is determined by our large Willow tree. Outside of Shineyland there is no designation.

This is all laid down in The Book of Oscar when he commanded Mrs Shiney to make a written record of it. He was doing his Yoga at the time -

                        upload_2026-1-24_12-1-22.jpeg

He had dominion over all of Shineyland and keeps an eye on it from above.

We, naturally, worshipped him and his word is gospel.

He was of course worshipped on a pedestal

                          What lovely pictures @shiney.

We had a beautiful black and white cat (could have been Oscar's brother) we adored and we still miss him so much.

I suggest you put Oscar forward as Chaircat on this Board of Peace @shiney . He's obviously well educated and would show far more interest in creating peace ( aka lying around on tables ) than the other members

As for Trump's comments on Afghanistan he appears to have forgotten that it was Bush who demanded that other nations become involved in that fiasco. Admittedly not helped over here with Blair's story about the WMD but to claim that none other than US troops fought on the Front Line is a blatant lie as well as demeaning to those who were killed and seriously injured. He has no conception of war - like other leaders, he is protected 24/7 and leads a privileged existence. Starmer and others were absolutely correct in not letting this latest idiocy go without speaking out against it. Red Lines are often mentioned - I think Trump has just crossed 1 altho I suspect he is too stupid to realise it.

@lizzie27 he had been around for about ten years before he adopted us and set up home in the greenhouse. He didn't want to come into the house but followed Mrs Shiney everywhere. He was a very large cat, not fat, at over 20lb.

@Philippa unfortunately he is now keeping an eye on us from above and doesn't really mix with mere mortals.
