BBC Good Food @CanadianLori - put hot cross bun in the search box and lots will come up - classic and variations.

I think one's view may depend on where one is. There may be people round the world who think Starmer is doing a good job, having seen him at various meetings abroad. Here at home, though, his shortcomings show up clearly. Carney has always talked a good talk on the world stage, but if you are not directly living with the results of his actions and inactions, it is hard to make a valid assessment of what that would be like.

Yes @ViewAhead but the news I see indicates he's making moves to free up trade between Canada's 10 regions tho I din't understand why they have rstrictions in the first place. He's also increased the pay of certain government employees, increased financial aid to the poor and instigated new infrastructure and housing programmes with new rules prioritising Canadian materials and employment.

He's also managed to diversify trade, selling goods to other countries to get round Trumpy tariffs and is attracting investment from countries seeking reliability which the USA can no longer give. That means new markets for Canadian oil, gas, wheat, phosphates, aluminium, lumber etc thus giving some job security to people in those sectors which were losing exports to the US.

None of this is going to be instant but it does mean that Canada will no longer be subject to USA whims and coercion in business, trade or security.

@ViewAhead I completely agree that storing everything is completely pointless but how would the media trawl back through someone's social media and find outrage at something innocent from years ago, if we don't:)

I don't see why anyone needs to store my data either and have stopped using OneDraive tho my system keeps trying to wake it up again. Data I want to keep safe is copied to external hard drives and USB keys and is my business, not anyone else's, tho clearly I can't control what social media sites store.

When I worked for a big software house before leaving the UK we did our own backups onto tapes and disks (late 80s) for the IBM mainframe and massive disks for the Unix systems with offsite storage for some. I see that Finland has quite a lot of these data storage systems and is using the heat they generate to heat nearby homes so it's not all bad but does seem a huge waste of resources to me and unbelievably vulnerable to misuse with chaps like Musk or the FBI and CIA in charge. No doubt other "security" services too.

It would be like the olden days, @Thevictorian, where something you uttered in 1970 could not be held against you in a job interview in 1990! ;)

Hot cross bun observations cont:- today I have seen lemon curd and white chocolate, millionaires shortcake, and, most alarmingly, cheese! :hate-shocked:

I've had the cheese ones @ViewAhead :thud:. A bit like spongy cheese scones. I only ate two, decided it was a sin and put the others in the bin .

Cheese hot cross buns, that is just weird!
Do you know how old the recipe is, @Michael Hewett? I love to see evidence from the past, old receipts and the like. A glimpse back into a different world.

I was given some of those cheese hot cross buns and I couldn't even give them away, even the local pigeons looked unimpressed.

I was however given some rhubarb and custard ones and they were quite nice.

The BBC Good Food website's list includes hot cross buns with chocolate chips, triple chocolate, cranberry and orange, lemon and marzipan, lemon and blueberry, vegan option, cheese, halloumi and sesame and then also a bacon butty hot cross bun and bun and butter pudding. Cup cakes too.

                              Whatever next?
