Do try to look at it from the point of view of the photo. Let’s turn the situation around. Let’s place it in a historical setting to get rid the current story. Imagine that your 17 year old second cousin had been taken on a plane from her home in UK and sent to America where she was put in a flat in New York. JFK was present along with two people who were much older than she. She was then photographed, for some reason, with JFK’s arm around her naked waist.

Would you still look at the photo of your then-17 year old second cousin and say to yourself “Oh that was fine, she was of the age of consent in UK.”

 

You don’t need to not die in order to be a survivor. In fact, many people who suffer abuse as children only survive physically. The mental damage is done.

 

Not all men, or even most men, of course. But it is something that happens across all income groups.

 

And has done for many years, the oldest profession.

I really dont think half these women were being forced, they were enjoying the high life and all the jetting around in private planes, it's strange how when they look back they think they should regret their past.
Or maybe 12 million quid is not a big enough pay off for one of them and others might get a bit more.
How many that were involved in the grooming gangs scandal are likely to see 12 million.

@pete odlest profession???? How can you be so ignorant and insensitive? In patriarchal societies women are treated as "less than" to be controlled, ignored or dismissed as men see fit and turn to prostitution when all other avenues of income fail.

In the case of the Epstein files these girls were often under age and vulnerable for many reasons to being exploited by coercion, drugs or sheer lies to become the play things of men too rich or powerful to be held to account. Epstein then used films and tapes of their behaviours to coerce them in turn for information and influence as he and his paymasters needed it.

For those of you only concentrating in UK news, Norway has chatged a frmer PM with corruption after he was named in Epstein files. A Slovakian security advisor has resigned after being named in the fikes. Other countries are carrying out investigations.

The only wonder in all this is that Trump, named over 38,000 times in the Epstein files - more times than Jesus is mentioned in the new testament - has still not been impeached for gross misconduct, that no other men in the USA are facing prosecution and that the only person in jail for it all is a woman!

Meanwhile all the Trumpy tantrums and tariffs see major job losses at home, agriculture tanking for loss of markets and fertilisers, building, motor and aeronautics industries facing huge costs on imported materials and new international trade alliances forming to evade all the USA uncertainties - what you get for electing a multiple bankrupt who simply doesn't understand business, economics and trade flows. But then 21% of US adults are functionally illiterate with, at best, a reading age of 11 over this side of the pond and he he has always said he loves stupid voters.

 

And your views are completely valid. We all approach sensitive topics influenced by many factors. The media presents the most contentious possible take as standard and our individual interpretation or reaction is always filtered by our own experience and sense of fairness.
