Early in WWII, German U-boat commanders often assisted survivors of torpedoed ships by providing food, water, or directions, sometimes even towing lifeboats
. This practice largely ceased after the 1942 "Laconia incident" where U-boats rescuing passengers were attacked by U.S. aircraft, prompting the "Laconia Order" that forbade further rescue attempts.

Not just war crime .........he appears to have avoided any serious investigations on previous criminal behaviour. He's the new God of the western world !!!

Please note - Geneva Convention I quoted was after WW2!!

793 sailors were rescued from the Belgrano @pete and 323 confirmed dead.

Trump will either die of his many ailments, be impeached or tried for war crimes. Given the wholesale thieving, conning and illegal appropriating and bribery done by him and his family I would not expect him to be a free man once ousted.

@Philippa Thankfully not many 3 storey houses being built in our area. The 3 storey buildings tend to be flats. Older properties - particularly those built before WWI have solid walls, tiny kitchens and downstairs bathrooms. It's often more cost effective to demolish and build new properties. As shown on various TV programmes, trying to improve insulation on old properties actually make things worse as it is rarely done properly i.e. with added permanent ventilation.

I doubt the 739 survivors were save by HMS conqueror, the sub that sank the Belgrano, probably shipping in the area.

There’s a development here with those narrow three storey houses. There are six semi-detached properties, so close that they could be a terrace, no garages and a small rectangular fenced lawn at the back like a dog pound . They have taken over a year to sell, after price reductions. I can’t see the appeal myself.

Sinking the Belgrano also helped to sink Thatcher. Elements of "war crime" in that instance too tho nothing was actually "proven" at the time ( or since ).
So much "mindfullness" stuff these days......can you imagine what goes thru your mind when you are just minutes from an inevitable death because some world leader decided you were expendable ?
Unless you are unlucky enough to be a War Veteran, I doubt whether many of us are faced with that.

@Philippa it was another 7 years or so before Thatcher was ousted and what did it for the public was her seriously bad PR handling of the poll tax which should have been presented as the fairer system it would be for local tax collection with each adult paying their share and not each household regardless of the number of adults.

The other thing that sank her was Geoffrey Howe's frustration with her very negative attitude to negotiations with the EU. He was Foreign minister at the time and described it as ""It is rather like sending your opening batsmen to the crease, only to find... that their bats have been broken before the game by the team captain." He took his revenge after he was replaced by John Major and moved sideways to be deputy PM, a non job in her cabinet.
