Of course, parents need to be vigilant about what their children are doing, but to do that online, they need access to their children's accounts and web chat histories ... which they don't have. That could be made standard. Every time a child's device is active, their parent's device could show where they are and what they are doing. The data is all collected by META, etc. Let parents have it in real time. Then you would know if your child was watching dangerous TikTok challenges and could intervene. Now, kids would hate that, of course, but unless the harmful stuff can be removed, which the tech giants maintain it cannot, then letting parents see it too would at least provide the chance for preventative action.

 

Which look to be out of date. The UK has a standing charging and consumption charge for both gas and electric, all are charged at 5% VAT.

Yet you say in France your charged 5.5% VAT for electricity and gas, So why does it say that France has hitherto applied a reduced VAT of 5.5% on the fixed part of the subscription and a normal VAT of 20% on consumption. However, this double taxation is not authorized by the European Union, which imposes uniform VAT rates for the same service. A VAT rate at 20% will now be applied to the subscription portion.

This came to effect in August 2025 under The finance act 2025, also the 5.5% VAT on renovation of homes older than 2 years was also scrapped on the 1st March 2025 and is now 20%.

I really don't care what you think about France and its VAT rates @gks. It's there. It's inescapable and we just have to pay it on things like leccy and water over which we have no control other than using our PV panels to reduce bills.

There's always been a religious/tribal divide in Glasgow football @NigelJ and you're right, trumpy has absolutely no understanding of his own people, let alone those in other countries but then for far too long, the US has believed they are the envy of the world and everyone wants to move there or be like them. Couldn't be more wrong.

 

I wonder why Ukraine hasn't after 4 yrs of war, its because the people of the country are against Russia.
Maybe Iran is different, I dont know, what do the majority of the population think, maybe they are mostly behind the regime that runs the country.

I think we often see a skewed version of these places.
