These growth hormones that they feed cattle. Do you think the effect of the hormones continues on into the people that eat the meat? I ask because young people these days are all so much taller and meatier than their parents. My next door neighbours, neither of them over 5’6””, have produced two children, both under 18, who are both 6’2” tall and muscular with it.

TV chefs that barely cook it has possibly allowed the hormones in the meat to remain.

I don’t think you can blame tv chefs, a lot of people enjoy their steak rare.

@Tidemark as I understand it the growth hormones in US cattle make people who consume it more likely to be fat, even obese. However, good protein intake does make children grow taller.

If you look at the statistics for the tallest nations in Europe you get the Dutch in the lead and the difference can be traced to their high protein breakfast which traditionally includes cheese, ham and eggs, the sort of thing you get in a proper continental breakfast. Even in Belgium the height difference between Flemish and Wallons is marked because the latter are more likely to have baguette than cheese.

Maybe higher protein levels are a factor. But these two kids seem to live on takeaway burgers, judging by the wrappers that drift down the road after the recycling bin men have been and done their usual slapdash collection.

There's still protein in the beef and it may well be that their parents would have been taller if better fed when babies and toddlers.

When Possum was in Maternelle she was always at least a head taller than the other children and that lasted till she started secondary school. Other mums would comment and I'd just say too much organic fertilizer but she would have proper packed lunches whilst other kids took Nutella sandwiches.

People nowadays don't seem to know the English language!

Brings to mind the problem with apostrophes and a good example

An apostrophe is the difference between - quote:- "A business that knows its sh*t and a business that knows it's sh*t."

Well guess you better tell China that, about 40 minutes drive from me is a huge pasture that Kobe beef cattle is raised, I see the black cattle walking about if I go that direction. And China leases that farm for that particular beef.

Would imagine there not be "enough" from America for the UK, as beef can come from other countries. As when I go to the grocery store I see, fish from different water sources, not just one, and garlic comes from China can be found here, that I avoid. I see Lamb from Australia of which I avoid also. As I have lots of Amish farms that raise beef, sheep, and lots of veggies all organic. Lucky for me.

My local butcher sells that Kobe beef, have not tried it yet, 25 dollars a pound a little steep for me.
