I don't think there are too many cricket fans on here, but for those who are, I am sure you will join me in paying tribute to the cricket journalist and commentator Christopher Martin-Jenkins, who died today, aged 67.

For me, one of the pleasures of summer in the garden has long been having Test Match Special on the radio in the background, while I potter about.

So for me, as for many others, 'CMJ' as he was affectionately known, has always been one of the voices of summer. It was always a pleasure to hear his calm, eloquent and authoritative voice in the background, keeping me informed while I went about my gardening, or simply sat and relaxed with a cup of tea.

Often after work, following a hot and busy day in summer, it was a pleasure to switch on the car radio for the journey home and hear CMJ's informative commentary, delivered in those measured, almost soothing tones which were his trademark.

So long CMJ, and thanks for the enjoyment you have given me and many other cricket fans over the years.

This is another sad loss, he was only young. Yes he will be missed on Test Match special, he seems to have been on there forever. I like to listen too if I get chance.

This thread has prompted me to google TMS for old presenters, some other great characters have come and gone and CMJ will be having fun if he ever finds his way up there (he was renowed for terrible time-keeping and even going to the wrong cricket ground once)

One thing I've learnt is it's now available on 5 Live Sports Extra. Up to now I've always listened to it on Long Wave and that has always been terrible reception in my car. I don't have DAB in my car (it will cost £299 to retro fit so I will give that a miss), is there another way to get it Trunky? Or do you listen on LW too?

Indeed John, CMJ will be having great fun with Arlott, Johnners, Trueman and the rest.

I don't have DAB in my car either. As you say, it's expensive to retro fit and I don't think the reception is that great anyway. Luckily, the Long Wave reception isn't too bad in my car (except when you go under power lines), so I can get away with it.

I guess your only option is to find out if there's any way of improving Long Wave reception in your car.

I can put up with LW, like you say it's only when you go near power lines or bridges. It's just that reception on FM is so clear these days it really shows up LW.
