Do you know, in all my life, I have never heard a cuckoo.. mustn't be in the right area. Or maybe they all hide when they see me! ;)

[IMG] Heard my first about a week ago, but we do have quite allot round here. Or perhaps I should say, we do not appear to have a shortage of them round here.. ;) As you say not the nicest of birds, but allot of folklore connected with them. This weekend always sees the "Cuckoo Fair" in Downton, near Salisbury. In fact this weekend is a very busy weekend, for Spring Fairs, Fetes, and general May Day festivities..!!

frogesque - but you are north of me, how could this happen, you before me. yes they are nasty things, but there is something wonderfully sensual about hearing the first one - suppose its the first sign that the weather is going to be warm enough for you to be able to get your kit off!!!ouuuu err.........

read somewhere that the first time you hear a cuckoo, however many times you hear him call "cuckoo" is the equivelant to how many years you have left to live.alright if your wearing running shoes, just watch out for the trees when your sprinting after him. [IMG]

Oh that is so funny roders! but I have not heard one yet so a bit too early for such demands.

and strongloden I do have Sruart blood in me so be carefull!

anyway back to cuckoo, it calls at an interval of a minor 3rd - just like the sound of a child calling "mummy" Mah - meee oh I need to add sound now. May be that is what attract us so much to the sound?

    Cuckoo comes in April
    Sings his song in May
Changes tune in the middle of June
    And then he flies away

    Sad isn't it? :D
