We dug three of our potato plants this week (as my dad suggested we should) and only got enough potatoes for one meal for two :skp:

They were damn marvellous, our first ever self grown spuds. Transported me back to my childhood! But as most are still flowering, if we keep watering, (feeding?) and wait longer will we get more potatoes on them or will they simply get bigger?

They'll get bigger. It is likely that there will be some on there that are so tiny it would be easy to not notice them. I've seen them less than the size of a small pebble when I've dug a plant a bit early. They too will grow.

In the last few weeks before the topside starts to look haggered, the spuds in the ground suddenly grow like crazy. They don't grow at a linear rate, so even though the yield was very low on the two plants you dug up this time, it is not the case that they will merely grow a bit in the next two or three weeks, well looked after the yield will at least double.

Double edged sword. As CluedUp1 said the tinsy winy ones will make spuds, and the others will bulk up. But the "New Potato" flavour will be less Wow-y (well, that's my opinion, I'd be interested to hear how you think the taste changes, or not, over the next few weeks)

So it depends how many plants you have got as to whether you carry on harvesting, for best flavour, or wait for a bigger crop.

Either way, now is the time to give them a real drenching - that will help them fatten up.
