    Hi All,

Wondered if anyone had used one of these cheapo ebay devices with their smart phone and if they do work at all ?

Was just looking to use one to inspect the internal condition / insulation of a cavity wall, would be a lot easier than removing plaster and bricks !

    thanks

Hi @ricky101 I personally have never used one of these devices so can’t help you on that score but when we were having cavity wall insulation put in under one of those government schemes the surveyor came to our house and when he went to check to see if we had some insulation by opening our electricity box he could tell by shining his phone torch into a hole inside the box which enabled him to see inside the cavity gap that we had no insulation at all just an air gap.Since we have had the insulation put in we can see some of the overspill of insulation that hasn’t come into the meter box so at least it looks like we now have some.

    Hope this info helps:smile:

I bought something similar from Amazon and was amazed at how easy it was to set up and use considering how cheap it was. It takes very detailed video - obviously you need one with LED lighting and mine has adjustable brightness which is also essential. I just wish I could have afforded one years ago when I used to work on classic cars to look inside cills and chassis etc.

There are many to choose from so I selected one on Amazon that users had reviewed and said it worked with my particular PC/phone. I have a Windows smartphone so that cuts down my choices, with your Andoid phone I think you need to be careful about which version of the OS you run and then check the endoscope is compatible with that.

I used endoscopes as an engineer to inspect castings , but this was a £5000 dedicated device. Obviously not what your looking for . Seems to be lots of smart phone add ons on Ebay for less than £10 . Youtube videos seem to like them :blue thumb:

          Hi,

Thanks all, seems it a bit hit and miss as to which type of phone it works with.

Have got a Moto G3 and mixed reports of them working with one but for £7 worth a try.

Ordered from ebay so might take a week to arrive, but will let you know if it works with my Moto.

@Kandy, good tip, but we know insulation is in there, its if they covered a particular area properly we need to check.

Let us know how it goes @ricky101 - you can return it if it doesn't work as advertised (although if it's coming from China you may lose that right but for £7 it's worth the risk).

Well it was a China based seller but with UK stock and a bit surprised it arrived so quickly today !

Seems on Ebay that are all the same devices, with adjustable light and a switch on the cable.

Was not sure about the instruction sheets use of the kmoom app, so just loaded one of the many other free apps , being ScopeCam.

Plugged in the Scope and it worked without changing anything on the phone ( Moto G3)

Seems to work well as you can see from a desktop picture and down between two cabinets.

The kit comes with a disc so you can run it from a pc, ( not tried yet) so even if you cannot use it on your smart phone should be able to use it on laptop etc instead, though a bit cumbersome.

This is the live view of the camera

EDIT, just drilled a 10mm hole in our cavity wall to test it out before we try it on our friends problem wall, extra pics below shows the end of our insulation, where it should be.
