Below is the picture of garlic ( photi attached). Is it growing well? Its my first try. I water regularly and just put animal feed every 2 weeks. The shoots seem wilted though.

It seems the picture didn't load you might have to try again. Even without a picture, it may be they are just maturing anyway. No matter how much water and feed you give a plant it won't go beyond it's natural cycle. Many people are harvesting garlic now, a lot will depend upon the variety and when you planted them. If they are going over stop watering and let them dry or they won't keep very long.

I think most garlic is probably coming to the end of its growing cycle now, maybe spring sown stuff could go a bit longer.

I planted them in November. I uploaded the photo now. Should I harvest?

I'm not sure what's going on as they look too small, are they in the shade ?

Mine have all finished growing now, they are dying down so I pulled them up to dry for two weeks before storing. Are you sure that is garlic?

Yeah they are too small and they are just bending (not straight) though the tips are getting drier amd brownish. This area of garden gets the most sun. I planted cloves myself.

I agree curious, planting in November should have been fine. Looks like they didn't "bulb up". They say that garlic needs a period of cold to make new cloves properly, November should have been ideal unless you are in a particularly mild spot.

Were these 'supermarket' cloves by any chance ? ie some which were offered for culinary use rather than cultivation. Some commercial crop is irradiated to give maximum shelf life. This does not (necessarily) kill the garlic but suppresses natural process .

Lift some and show us what you have ! May just be an 'onion' looking bulb or it may be divided as one might expect. But tiny. (But probably usable as garlic in any case. )
It would be interesting to plant some again and discover whether they are viable 'next time'
Suggest you try again on a new site where the soil is known to be rich and in good light. One might plant around 23/10/25 with new garlic from a reputable source. Please try again.
          Good luck

One other problem with supermarket garlic is that they could be imported from a hot climate and unsuitable for our British weather.

I am just about to plant my ordinary and elephant garlic. Was just checking the spacing on the net( should remember grown it for years!) and came across an article about soaking garlic prior to planting. This is a new one in me especially as it not like seeds which I know some people soak pre sowing.I normally have pretty good results with garlic so maybe I should just not bother? I also read you are meant to soak in an anti fugal solution. The only thing I have which was one of the recommendations as a soaking solution is….Vodka. Hmm, I think I have other plans for that:).Does anybody soak their corms pre planting and if so for how long?

Sorry, I have never soaked my garlic bulbs in anything, alcoholic or otherwise. That's a new one on me as well.
As long as the bulbs are firm, that's all that really concerned me.

I'll be interested in hearing from anyone who has done that .

Usually once planted they get soaked for a minimum of 4 months, often longer.:roflol:

No I've never soaked my garlic in anything prior to planting; never really had any fungal problems either. Lose the odd onion from time to time to fungal problems, but that's it.
