How Medicine has moved on so quickly. My wife went into hospital this morning for the removal of a Cataract. We went into reception, she gave her details of medication she was on etc. we were put into a waiting room at 8am,she was called at 8.20am to go into the preparation room. I was told i could go for a stroll and have a cuppa and come back at 10.30.

I returned at 1030 and she was sitting in the waiting room, operation done, cataract removed
eye protector on,absolutely brilliant.:dbgrtmb:. The other eye is to be done in 8 weeks.

Added Bonus. She was informed ,after her other eye is done she can discard her contact lenses, which she has worn for many years and spent a fortune on them and the overnight solution which is now very expensive:dbgrtmb::dbgrtmb:. Only problem, she never missed a trick before the operation ,I'm A Doomed Man.:WINK1:.

I can confirm the speed of this type of service provided by NH.
My wife has both Lens's replaced last year.
the thought of it is frightening. Cutting out the entire lens and re-fitting plastic replacements into the eyeballs.
The end result was a massive improvement. No longer the need for contact lenses.
The only downside is that she cannot get a Glasses prescription that allows her to read, but her focal length is greatly improved. Previously she was registered Blind.

I'm very pleased to see that Music's wife has had similar success.:dbgrtmb:

Opticians and Eyes are amazing things

My Grandfather back in 1914 was an Opthalmic surgeon,
He also used to experiment on US in 1950 using prisms

If you take a normal seeing person and fit prism lenses then the world becomes UPSIDE DOWN, However if you leave these in place after a day or two, the person sees the world normal, and can walk around run for a bus etc, then when the glasses are removed everything becomes upside down for a couple of days then you are back to normal

He worked on Cateracts, initially using rabbits, slice across the top of the eyeball and remove front lens, it comes out like a soft contact lens, then through the slit you place the new lens, or in his case, the original back, micro stitch and job done
I have No idea how he asked the rabbit if it could see OK

I have some great memories, of school and things aquired from grandad
Like when we went for our TB test injections in my Kacki shorts complete with pocket full of glass eyes
When they fell out on the floor the nurse nearly fainted :-)
