I was out in the garden this morning, enjoying a beautiful sunny autumn day, clearing a few leaves and doing a few odd jobs.
As the stroke of 11 o'clock on this, Remembrance Sunday, I heard the distant boom which marked the start of the 2 minutes silence.
As I stood in quiet contemplation, I thought of my two Great Uncles, Arthur and Wilfred, whose names are on the war memorial in the village where I grew up.
Like me they were gardeners, as was my grandfather and his other brother.
These four brothers all went to war. Only two came back.
As I stood there with my thoughts, I noticed a solitary late Poppy nearby in my somewhat unkempt herb patch, encouraged into flower by the mild autumn. It was a moment of powerful poignancy.
    Thank you Arthur and Wilfred.
