Can I grow a nice ivy over a rose arch? The arch is very exposed. Would ivy be better planted in the ground or a big pot. I'm looking for something that is perhaps green in the summer and a lovely red in the winter/spring, is there such a thing? Thanks as always guys.

    Hello Oakdaledave

Not that I know of, unless you're thinking of Virginia Creeper, Parthenocissus quinquefolia, (see photo below) which you often see covering the walls of sizeable houses, so maybe a little vigorous for a rose arch!

I've never grown ivy in the way you suggest but it is pretty tough and obliging. I think I'd probably grow it in the ground, given the choice - although it is probably easier to keep in check when grown in a pot.
