    Hi All

I am not sure what has happened but I don't seem to get any new offshoots from my strawberry plants.
I know nothing about the plants I was given but the did give 2 lots of fruit 1 early and 1 later in the Autumn. Could it be that the plants are just too old and I should have kept some new shoots rather than giving them away??

    Thanks

    Dave

Hi, davidguy! I've had my plants for several years and they tend to fruit when they feel like it year round. I have to take all the dead leaves off from beneath on a regular basis. They are in a strawberry pot :D :D in a part sunny / part shady position. Mine only give off new shoots in the Spring.

Maybe someone from the UK can shed further light on your problem ... but I don't think they will die on you! [IMG]

Hello David Guy, i was given some strawberry plants at my allotment yesterday and was told they do not produce runners and she did not know how to reproduce them so i did some whizzing around on the internet and found they maybe alpine strawbs, one website said to refridgerate the seeds for 3-4 weeks and then plant them. Other websites said alpine strawbs produce runners but i will try the seeds in the fridge. Hope this helps. Welliewearer

I think you in fact put the whole plant in the fridge or chiller, about 2 weeks before planting outside

Good Morning morning from driech Scotland this morning.

I am also wondering what to do with my 1st yr strawberrie plant but thi syear they have given off runners ,they are in my greenhouse in border.

Last year I aslo had plants grown in greenhouse but they dried out.

This yr got a small crop and nice tasted ,I have been watering.

As there are a lot of runners self rooted should I feed or jus twater throught the winter.

Dont want to loose my plants this year.

Hi SK,take the shoots off,and clean any dead leaves away,if you want to sve the shoots then pot them in separate pots, water in the winter and in about April start feeding,or when flowers start to appear, usually after 2 years replce them with the shoots you saved from previous year

I still can't work out from all this how to make my Strawberry's produce off shoots or runners they did until last year when they stopped producing them. Is it too late this year to make them produce some off shoots? If no how can I do this?

I was told that I should use the new off shoots to supply Strawberry's each 2 years. I cannot ask the man who gave them to me as he is no longer with us, hence my concern to losing these plants.

Your best bet is to just wait and see,you cant make them produce shoots, this time of year they are generally dieing back, however as i said all you can do is wait and see [IMG]

    Hi Macleaf

Thanks for the advice I will just have to wait and see.

It would be a shame if they did not reproduce!!

    Thanks again

Separated runners from my strawberry plants yesterday, looking very healthy and green.

They are planted in borders of my greenhouse still looking green with new shoots.

Have tried this once before and lost them even before I separated runners.

This time there was a loot of base root on the runners.
