Does anyone grow Alstromeria? We have 2 rather nice thuggish ones which do well. We have tried the dwarf ones, but they do not survive, so we were wondering if anyone had any knowledge of the taller, more robust ones?

We have a few of the Indian Summer types that grow about 2ft high, sold by most of the big places.

They grew very well in 35cm pots the first two years but this year not looking so good, perhaps need splitting and repotting ?

Earlier this year we carefully eased off some small pieces of shoots/roots from the potted ones and planted them in the border and they seem to be coming up well.

'Indian Summer' here, too. In the ground, having been nurtured in a pot for several years, and transplanted about 8 years ago. Never fails, regularly neglected.
I agree about the smaller ones, I can't get them to do anything but curl up their toes and quietly die.

I'd agree. The small inticancha ones need lots of TLC in pots. I love Indian Summer which goes on for ages and I have a pink one of the summer series that is flowering for a long time. I have recently bought an all green sport of Rock and Roll as I wanted a tall red but not the variegation. So far, looks promising.

        Hi

I grow several varieties , I was told by a florist most of the tall varieties were grown for the flower trade.

the small varieties are needy and tend to run out of steam after 3 years..need repotting and fresh compost. The vowels in my garden like the tuberous roots

Thanks. Got that one already. We were looking for info on the taller ones like A. Tessa, A.Sirius and others of that sort of height.
