    Hi All,
I am new to gardening but learning fast having bought a house with a fantastic established garden that I am ruining fast.
We have a 12ft greenhouse with a massive vine trained across the roof. It produces 50+ bunches but takes over the whole greenhouse. It grows out the windows and across the garden in a season. Can I prune it when growing? There are loads of fruits set already. I want to grow tomatoes and cucumbers in the greenhouse underneath.
    thanks

    Hi

    And welcome :sign0016:

Vines need different pruning throughout the year , and hard to explain in a thread , I dont normally say this but buy yourself a good book on Grape Vines and it will have diagrams on how to prune Spring summer Autumn and how to feed/water /diseases/ pests which is very important .

But saying that branches that are growing where you dont want them in the summer you can cut them back quite short so need need for it to go wild on you.

Where roughly do you live as its still very early to have them setting already ?

Is it a desert grape vine or a wine grape vine?

I have no idea what type of grape but it is tiny with pips and tastes lovely. We live on the south coast and every thing is early this yr. I'll try and take a pic tomorrow and post it. The main pest is wasps which attack the grapes late summer and make them difficult to pick. Otherwise it's a healthy vine, too healthy as takes over my greenhouse.
    Can I ask another question....
I have a strawberry patch but the ants ate the lot last yr. Any suggestions? Don't want to use ant powder as don't like to use chemicals, and have children and chickens roaming wild.
    Thanks

Regarding the vine, you need to get it under control, best to pinch out the growing tip one leaf after each bunch of flowers, then pinch out resulting shoots at one leaf.
You might need to thin the grape bunches to one per stem.

It was probably slugs or the chickens that ate the strawberries last year:smile:
