Anyone seen this film? I saw it on stage in December, the film now three times in the last two weeks and now I've read the book! Each version very different from the others but each very good yarns. I don't think you have to like horses especially to enjoy it in any form but if I had to choose - which is very difficult - Spielberg gets the prize if only for the cinematography, the stunning aerial shots of Devon and the all too graphic visual description of WW1 war and trenches. But 10/10 all round, I'd say.

:) I have just seen the film and last year saw the stage show.

It is a lovely story , sure to stir the emotions.....I loved both shows for different reasons. The stage show may just have shaded it because of the technical brilliance of the puppetry of which you become almost unaware of and the music told the story brilliantly.
Of course Steven Speilberg, the great story teller that he is used the emotional side of the story to the max.........:cry3:

          Did you know:
          1. that Jeremy Irvine ('Albert') had never been near a horse before he successfully auditioned for the part? They gave him three months training for two short sequences of riding!
          2. by his own report, Jeremy was an extra in the stage version a while ago
          3. he has had type 1 diabetes since a child

Also Daisees,I read somewhere that seventeen horses played the part of the main horse character Joey but not sure if that is true and also read on another forum that someone who went to see it at the pictures got bored with it after ten minutes so obviusly they have never watched a Speilberg film before or are not horse lovers:D

There were several but I don't recall Spielberg saying as many as that. I thought he said nine.

However, I just Googled and found this interview with the trainer which states it

Q: How many horses did you use for War Horse? And how do you get them to all look alike?
A: We trained 14 horses of all ages and sizes but only ended up using about 10. War Horse follows the horse from a foal to adulthood, so we could fudge on sizes a bit.

I watched it last week, I would certainly recommend the film, although for me the first 3/4 hour was very slow and the ploughing sequence was a right laugh although it was not supposed to be. But it perked up with the action sequences. I like the idea of using new actors, they were all very good.
