Back in my younger days I worked out a formula for solving the Rubik's Cube. Can't remember it and can't find the book I wrote it in. I blame :old:

Despite many attempts over the years, I have never managed to solve it. Not even near.

reminds me, my sister in law EWA, is Polish, lives in Poland with husbands oldest brother. She talks about being active with the Scouts etc. Her daughter also active in the Scouts. One year they were visiting, we had a BBQ outside. So being they were involved with the Scouts, I thought a nice dessert would be Somemores. So I got the ingredients etc. Found out they never had Somemores ever. Startled. Like what do you do around a campfire with the scouts if not put together Somemores. But they did enjoy them.

I had to look up Somemores, never heard of them, I see it sometimes spelt S'mores.

I dont think its a European thing.

Definitely an Amercian abomination with too much sugar.

We tend to have BBQ'd fruit on skewers - pineapple is good - or banana baked in foil or just fresh strawberries in season.

Even when I was in the Scouts it was more like two bob a job.
As to what happened to it, well parents and authorities got scared of young people going and knocking on doors of people who they didn't know.
We were out so often selling raffle tickets, collecting for jumble sales and various other money raising things that people used to put the lights out and hide until we'd gone.
Anyway certainly all the kids knew which streets, houses and people to avoid; even if only because of the ferocious cat.

Toasted marshmallows is as far as we seem to go in Europe.

@pete sadly far too risky these days for kids to go round knocking on doors and asking if there's anything the occupants want doing for a shilling!

Its sad how things are these days, its was mostly done by kids who knew the neighbours and went round and pestered them until they gave them a shilling for doing something simple.

They used to give you a sticker to put in your window saying, job done, so you didn't get hassled anymore.
                              Simple times.
