I don't think it's much of a problem for Canadians @CanadianLori, given the huge fall in numbers now visiting the US since the tariffs and ambition to acquire your country.

I certainly won’t be watching either, @Obelix-Vendée, I’m not a football fan at all. But with Trump threatening to move matches from the advertised venues, to punish any cities he has taken offence at, next years tournament could go down in history as a disaster!

The USA has always believed that the rest of the world is desperate to visit America, indeed to be American. I found that when I had to work there for a couple of weeks in the 1990s; I got asked several times if I was after my "green card". And at one point they were desperate to get me out there again and one of the American staff said I could have a free holiday in his condo in Florida. I had no idea what a condo was, but I had absolutely no interest in going to Florida. Trump still seems to be under the impression that people will jump through any number of hoops to get through its sacred borders to the promised land.

 

I won't be going there or any other country, even in this country i won't go to place's that have all these pay zone's, london, bristol etc etc even i won't use bridge's that are pay online, i will just be staying very local and if they start charging just to go to the shops when i won't be going things are just geting silly and out of hand

 

Maybe if everybody stayed where they were put the world might be a happier place.

 

Here is the BBC being all BBC again, about the swimmer Sharon Davies being elevated to the Lords.

No, she is campaigning about MEN in women's sport. Trans men can and do compete in the female category, though I would hope they are having their testosterone levels checked. And putting "protect women's sport" in quotes?

And the MEN issue is not just about trans, it's also about DSDs (differences of sexual development) which led to the 2016 Olympics women's 800m final awarding gold, silver and bronze to men (remember Caster Semenya?). And even last year in the Olympics, 2 men competed in the women's boxing and both won gold.

A few weeks ago the World's Strongest Woman contest was won by a man. Thankfully enough of a stink was kicked up that the prize was withdrawn within days and awarded to the runner up (a British woman!) . The organisers claimed that they didn't know the original winner was a man.

 

I know a few people from the local US airforce bases and the general mood they convey from there, is of disgust for the way their country is moving in terms of defense. They can't understand how a non military man is undermining their legacy as an ally. One said he understood why Europe was becoming a problem and that they needed a kick up the bum in terms of defense but he believed this was mostly to do with making money for the top guy and his friends.

 

One of the good things about the EU/US defence situation now is that the Europeans, including Britain, are having to step up and accept they need to do more for themselves in terms of investment in policies, arms and personnel. One other outcome, unforeseen by Trump and his aides, is that they are likely also to reduce their dependence on US arms and will be buying and building home grown planes, subs, transports and armaments, especially now that the EU has signed a huge deal with Canada to join their Security and Defence Partnership:

Keep in mind I am the one here that actually goes to the food stores and puts gas in my car so I can actually see the cost of things, as those cost are going down due to the process of Trump. And certain things are happening to our taxes. And our stocks look awesome. All that lend credibility to the positive that things are getting better. Trump is a CEO and have worked with them before, he is certainly following the mindset of that type of person.
So far the direction that the USA is going is awesome.
