Seems to me that what is missing is a competent and honest candidate for all the parties. Same as here!
@redstar As was said earlier, you are certainly entitled to voice your opinion about your government's actions - we do exactly the same I don't think many would disagree about Joe Biden not being suitable as the Democratic President. However, I do believe that people are also entitled to question some of Trump's actions and his constant claims that the US is being victimised. His quest/threat to take over Canada, Greenland and Gaza is seen as the act of a power mad person who has lost the plot somewhere along the line. All of us, wherever we live and however we vote, are open to fake news and general misinformation. It's left to the individual to sift thru it and find the facts if possible. Not exactly easy these days. Whatever actually happens, let's hope we will all be here posting on the forum this time next year
I actually think his talk about that is some sort of a distraction for something else. It certainly sets the Democrats in a frenzy. But, I love it when the Democrats are in a frenzy over anything, they have no focus, and no clue with to do with anything. Trumps got them check mated all the time.
There could be an element of misogyny to it, but I think the main difference between Truss and Reeves is the optics of appearing confident, sane, in control. Truss did not. She had no reason to take the country off a cliff other than to give a quick route to wealth increases for the wealthiest. No one had been banging on about removing the 45% tax rate and yet she suddenly scrapped it. RR came in from a different angle. She got a lot of media traction for her (possibly mythical) black hole and then went for the easy kill of the WFA, which sort of funnelled wrath away from the bigger things (union deals, NI increases, etc). She also set a red line (no additional taxes for working people) and hovered above it, without actually technically stepping over it and placing her foot on the ground.
I'm a little on the fence with the way he acts. Whilst I think that people in power should behave more like statesmen, I do like that he winds the press up from time to time. The clincher though is that at times the most powerfull person in the world should know when to behave and it was absolutely shameful what went on in the Whitehouse with Zelensky. It was so crass to say it will make great television.
Trump is a known liar, multiple bankrupt, misogynist and a total lack of respect for alliances and allies. I saw this recently about his record: 64 Times Mentioned In Epstein Report. 97 Times Pleaded The Fifth. 34 Felony Convictions. 91 Criminal Charges. 26 Sexual Assault Allegations. 6 Bankruptcies. 5 Draft Deferments. 4 Indictments. 2 Impeachments. 2 Convicted Companies. 1 Fake University Shut Down. 1 Fake Charity Shut Down. $25 Million Fraud Settlement. $5 Million Sexual Abuse Verdict. $2 Million Fake Charity Abuse Judgment. $93 Million Sexual Abuse Judgements. $400+ Million Fraud Judgment. First President in history to serve a full term increase the deficit every year he was in office. First President in history to maintain a debt to GDP ratio over 100% for his entire term. Highest annual budget deficit. Most added to the national debt in a single term. Most new unemployment claims. Largest single day point drop in the history of the Dow. First major party candidate in half a century to lose the popular vote twice. Longest government shutdown in history (and he did that while his own party controlled both chambers of Congress). First President in the history of approval ratings to maintain a net negative approval rating for his entire term. First President to be impeached twice. First President to have bipartisan support for his conviction after impeachment (which happened both times). Most indictments, guilty pleas, and criminal convictions of members of an administration. First president to have a mug shot. Please go ahead and lookup every claim here.
So, the question is how could an apparently democratic system result in Trump on the ballot paper? And the answer is … money, money, money. Money has distorted politics around the world.
I just think the democratic systems are not working. They were never designed to cope with all the fake news or real news we get these days, its too easy to play the publicity game these days. The old ways just seem to bring the wrong people into the frame, not just in the US but here as well. Not that I know how to counter it, but voting seems far too complicated and skews results.
What have I said which even remotely suggests I want another American Civil War? I believe that if Trump tried to make himself 'President for Life' the vast majority of the population of the USA, Republican and Democrat would prevent him from doing so, using the law, not war.
Apparently, when a reporter asked him a question he couldn't answer he said it was a stupid question and refused to take any more questions from that reporter.
Just cast your mind back to 6th Jan 2021, there are enough Trump/MAGA supporters with weapons to at least cause major law enforcement issues, even assuming the police follow orders.
I think it will come from inside America. There's already been one attempt on his life, whether we believe that to be genuine or not, and he wouldn't be the first president to be assassinated. If Trump doesn't back down from what he wants to impose on the rest of the world, then a member of the public is likely to take the law into their own hands.
