I don't think the President who accepted the Statue of Liberty as a gift got to keep it for himself.

 

It would only be worth it if you sold it though (that's assuming you aren't a secret billionaire) . A full tank would cost around £250,000, plus you'd have hanger fees, landing fees, 100k or so for someone to fly it, plus maintenance fees.

It's a bit like those houses they put up as prizes, very few get lived in as most can't afford to keep the house and take a cash prize instead.

The Statue of Liberty was given to the nation, not the president.

It would be illegal and unconstitutional for Trump to accept a gift of any sort, let alone a thumping great plane without Congressional approval tho that hasn't stopped him so far.


As for Britannia, she was used for diplomatic visits where an appearance by the queen or an invitation to a royal banquet abord could greatly influence discussions with the host country and HM's guests. It worked well

Presumably they'd want Cornish for anyone going to Cornwall and Gaelic too if any immmigrants settle in those parts of Scotland and its isles. As far as I'm aware English is an official language across the British Isles and many other countries. Welsh is not.

It is not at all unreasonable to expect immigrants seeking a permanent home to be able to speak the language of their new country. The French have a language test to pass for anyone wanting to acquire French nationality.

NO they didn't! They observed his behaviour the first time round and have prepared accordingly. Great planners the Chinese and prepared to take short term pain for long term gain and Trump's tariffs have delivered dividends for the Chinese.

They've stopped the exports of rare earth minerals to the USA and that will affect your i-phone, automotive and electronics industries amongst others. They have found new sources of beef and soya so no longer need USA agriculture. They can find crude oil and plastics elsewhere. They've cancelled contracts for Boeing planes thus putting that company and its jobs at risk. Pharmaceuticals were another big USA export to China but not impossibe to source elsewhere.

Ask yourself @redstar, given that Trump has arbitrarily imposed tariffs on trading partners with trade treaties made when Trump was last in power and signing them off, ever make a new trade treaty knowing he can't be trusted to think the same form one day to the next?

Other countries are now seeking trade with each other and leaving the USA out of the equation. Other countries, especially China and Japan, also hold billions of $ of USA govt bonds which, if he pushes them too far and they decide to offload, will bring the dollar to its knees.

As for that plane, Air Force 1 is a USA asset funded by the tax payers and needs to be secure and available for government staff. It is extremely unseemly to be offered the gift of such a plane especially in view of the multi billion dollar deal Trump has with Qatar to build a golf course. It's Grift not Gift!

 

@Obelix-Vendée , over the many years lots of presidents have been gifted items worth lots of money, none of which is brought to the attention of anyone, but don't let Trump be offered a gift, and the world pays attention. At this point that gift plane has not landed yet.

Good that other countries are seeking trade with each other. Even if they leave USA out, its ok with most of us. We can provide for ourselves. At this point talks still are not done with the issues of trade, takes time. And the stock market was awesome today.
