It used to be a thing, in the early 20th century. Young women would have all their teeth pulled out and a set of dentures as a wedding present. That way their husband wouldn't have to worry about the expense of a dentist.
I’m sure King Charles teeth are healthy and functional! He will have had excellent dental treatment all his life. Unfortunately the trend today is to have cosmetic treatment so that many people end up with identikit teeth. Too white as well, which means they look like a set of dentures to me! I’ve seen some horror stories of people going to Turkey and having perfectly good teeth reduced to pegs, in order to have rows of crowns put on. They dont last forever, and each replacement procedure loses more of the natural tooth until dentures or implants are the only option left. Also reliant on the state of the gums, so if they arent cared for, the teeth will loosen and eventually need extracting. Yes, you can still get toothache! I’ve seen older women who had all their teeth out for their 21st birthday present, or for their wedding, and dentures fitted. The big problem then came after middle age, when they had lost so much bone in their jaws, that there was little to support the dentures, which became very loose. Not much fun at all.
Fortunately I have still have all my teeth and no fillings but they aren't blindingly white! Being taught how to clean my teeth properly, from the age of three, and eating mostly the right things (with an occasional naughty) has possibly contributed a lot to that.
So, do you think a child born in the US to an undocumented migrant should be deported with its mother or should stay without her? Outraged headlines are easy in both cases, but one or the other has to happen if a parent is being removed.
Sometimes, when I may have overindulged, I might have looked like it. I also, sometimes, have a pregnant pause in conversations.
Here in the UK they don't even kick illegal immigrants out after they have committed serious crimes. The criminal appeals on 'human rights' grounds and 99 times out of 100 they get to stay! Every illegal immigrant should be kicked out, even legal immigrants should be removed if they commit a serious crime.
Do you have a reliable source for this number? How many illegal or legal immigrants are convicted of serious crimes? How many of these when flagged for deportation at the end of their sentence then appeal on human rights grounds and are successful? Somehow I doubt it's a 99% success rate, I could be wrong of course; I look forward to seeing the data.
I don't have any links. But they said a while back that if they deported all the foreign criminals in our prisons it would free up around a third of the spaces.
@ViewAhead there is no excuse for separtaing children from parents and leaving them abandoned, especially on the street as in the case I cited. When trump was last in power they did many deportations from illegal immigrant detention centres but had already separated the kids without any documentation so they are unlikely ever to be able to trace their parents/children as the case may be. That was featured in a BBC documentary and news items at the time. It is inhuman. Human Rights violations were already a big problem in the USA despite legislation for "equality and fairness" - World Report 2025: Rights Trends in United States - but its getting exponentionally worse under trump.
In which case sending a US toddler with her deported mother is actually the humane choice. I'm not saying I support either. I'm pointing out the headlines try to have it both ways - outrage when a US child stays without a parent and outrage when they are deported. You can't have it both ways without giving immunity to all mothers from being returned to their homeland if they give birth in the US. That, however, would be a policy open to all sorts of abuse. There are no easy answers when many places in the world are unstable, ruled by criminal cartels. That is where the help is needed. Unfortunately much of the destabilisation has been the result of US corporate interference and foreign policy in the first place.
If Biden was the only one who allowed criminals to enter the US, that would just be 4 year's worth wouldn't it ? Not too bad then. Got a feeling Trump also let a few crims in - the sex trafficker recently - supposedly a US citizen but based in Romania ? Not sure he can really moan about it tho as if he had agreed to appear in court himself to counteract the criminal charges laid against him, he may have been found guilty. Trump may consider himself a legal immigrant to the USA by now but still has to prove himself innocent of criminal activity.

Lets see, buying all those cars, pays for the labor that the workers have done to make the cars, yachts pays the salary for the workers who built the yachts, and lets see for every yacht you have to have a captain, so the salary of the captain is paid for, and the salary of the 15 member staff on each yacht is paid for, and the driver for all the cars is paid for. and the cleaning people for all the houses gets a salary to keep the houses clean, probably a cook is involved in those houses also, and the landscaper for all those house gets a salary. so some of the houses have horses, then there is the stable people. So the billionaire does contribute to the welfare of local folks with jobs. And he pays taxes on the properties, and pays for docking fees for his boats to the local community. Oh, forgot, the houses, paid for the decorator and the furniture to fill the house, that goes to salary of the folks that made the furniture or bed linens, or curtains. and paint manufactories to paint the houses. then there is the electric bills, water bills. and security systems. And some properties have cows, pigs sheep, depending on where, so there are folks to take care of those, yet another job. Wow, does he contribute a lot. Back to the immigrant illegal children issue. Biden lost 300 thousand children, they were lost to sex traffic or slavery. Trump is trying to find them all . Wonder how you would do that.
