          My beans are not doing good at all - just read something that hopefully you guys and gals might find intersting whether there's any truth in it - make your own minds up! Which ever way your bath or sink water runs down the plug hole is the way you should in courage you beans and vine veg to wrap around your canes something to do with the earths rotation making there growth easier

            It's called the coreopsis effect @leeski , but I'm not sure that has an effect on runners. they twine clockwise naturally and as far as I know do so in both hemispheres.

              It's been so mild this winter that some of my runner beans from last year have survived and are just starting to sprout:

                Good morning well I transferred my runner beans in to their final position yesterday and put the cockle shells around them a slug snail deterrent:smile:

                  Woo you mentioned cockle shells in another post ,as a slug deterrent . Where on earth do you get cockle shells from ? ( please nobody say cockles :biggrin: )

                    Good morning @HarryS my friend you can buy them on line or at some garden centres but I am fortunate that I often go cockling(standing in deep mud and digging them up) which is local to me:smile:
