It has snowed nearly all day again and moving around the garden over 1ft deep in places. No wind but it's blooming cold, -2C/28F.

There was less than an inch of snow on the ground this morning, but about 3 inches on the car roof, so I guess the snow on the ground had melted several times during the night while that on the car just kept building up.
All the roads locally were clear of snow and ice but then they should have been as the largest Salt Mine in Europe is only a few miles from where I live!! There were some light snow showers during the day but, if anything, the ground snow seemed to get thinner. The temperature has stayed around the 32f-34f level all day, but now it's dropped to 31f although it still hasn't snowed. According to the Met Office we're right in the middle of the heavy snow zone expected tonight......we shall see!! I'm wondering what my two cats will think if there is 4 to 8 inches of snow in the garden in the morning:cat-kittyandsmiley::heehee: Right now the pressure is 984hpa.

Spread five 20Kg bags of rocksalt [1] earlier this morning, hoping the supermarkets are going to be full of reduced stuff as the snow is forecast to continue all day and I want to be able to get the car out, plus back in again laden with bargains.

Still haven't got our heating on yet.

[1] Bought reduced to 10p per bag/ £5 per tonne at B&Q a couple of years ago.

We never turn ours off! It's a nice warm 75F (24C) in the lounge and a couple of degrees colder in the rest of the house (following doctors' and government's recommendations that us oldies :old: should keep our houses warm if we can). :blue thumb:

It saved my mother's life 30 years ago. I had persuaded her to never touch the heating controls and set them for warm all year round (including nights). She had a bad fall in the night and I found her ten hours later on the floor in her hall. It was sub-zero outside and the ambulance men said that if she hadn't had the heating on it was highly likely that she would have died of hypothermia (the local hospital had already had two cases that night). She was out of hospital two weeks later and lived another 10 years. Of course, a lot of people can't afford to keep the whole place warm so, as they said on the news this morning, they should just concentrate on heating one room and spend most of the time in there.

At 10 p.m. last night it was 26F (-3C) and by 2 a.m. it was 34F (1C). Now it's 35F and snowing heavily but I suspect that if the temperature rises a bit more (forecast) it will turn to wet snow and then rain.

The snow's now nearly 4 inches deep outside, with 4 more hours of heavy snow forecast, followed by 2 hours of light snow.

None of the local roads have been gritted, including the village's A road. The road to the local school will be impassable tommorow unless a snow plough clears it. A local visitor attraction expecting >10,000 visitors today (last day) haven't gritted their access roads/carvparking and groups are staff are hanging around wring their hands and not wanting to make a decidion to close that could lose them a massive amount of money and waste a whole load of food intended for sale, and if they're unable to stop visitors from turning up the village will be gridlocked.

Just heard a load of emergency vehicles go through the village, guess somebody was too impatient to travel at 10mph like the other traffic.
