A similar thread appeared on another gardening forum. I find it very interesting as members have locked onto the legal system. I have been employed in the civil system and the police system. Having first insight of company law. For those at the top. Megga bucks. I'd have preferred criminal law. Possibly being influenced by crime stories and TV plus films. My second job was that of a police officer.

I have to laugh at times, when reading or watching of some poor cop being shouted at and threatened to being transferred to TRAFFIC. I attained the post of traffic cop at an early age. Based in London. As for every cop. each day was different.

OK there seems to be some kind of stigma with the title. Once you have that warrant card, you are a police officer, full stop. So the humble traffic cop reports for duty. You are assigned a patrol area. You might be a solo, in London that meant you were a motorcycle cop. I loved that. You were on your own. Otherwise you were crewed to a traffic car. In either case, you was a cop and you responded to whatever call/shout that came your way.

A common saying with cops is. Gut feeling. This is true. One gradually, as it were builds up an internal data base. Even at this point, being a cop has it's attractions. Perhaps job change worth considering. Whatever, all the best.

I happened upon a conversion course that's offered to people who already have a degree and business experience, it got me thinkin'. I've been consulting for 20 years now and I should be able to apply the accumulated knowledge to the benefit of those requiring it. I have interests in housing and family law but also the criminal side but from watching too much schlock tv.
I had a view of a small practice in the village and retiring very early lol

Reversing this subject slightly, what would you have liked to have done had you not done what you did?

I wanted to be a forensic coroner or detective but I liked ice dancing and would have loved to have done stage dancing ... Pan's People! :hapfeet:

Stage life. Not necessarily performing, even back stage would have done it for me: timing! That was the key - still is (but many no longer *know* it: it is an art within its self!).

I asked my mother this very question when she had but days left to live. I was completely dumbfounded by her answer: A milliner!
Nothing at all reflected by how she has spent her whole life. A very intelligent woman with a flare; long hidden. Until: I recalled the clothes she made for my dolls; a small, inconsequential act - but one which must have satisfied her yearning to create!

I think you would have made a really acute forensic coroner! Your mind has that analytical function making it an imperative!

As I've done virtually all the different things that I wanted to there only comes to mind two things that I regret not being able to do.

I would have loved to be a singer (I have a lousy voice) and a tap dancer (can't even manage a waltz - even after lessons!).
