Solved Can anyone identify this plant and tell me how to get rid of it?

Hello all

I have a plant (photo attached) in my garden that keeps appearing, and spreading.

I have tried removing it but I am unable to trace its roots, so far.

Any suggestions as to how I can get rid of this plant permanently would be appreciated.

The bright green ovalish leafed weeds are Spurge, the ones in the bottom rh corner are Nipplewort and the creeping ones with small leaves and blue flowers are Speedwell (all annuals).

Or do you mean the one with long stems and shiny green leaves towards the top? (might be Periwinkle, a perennial).

Spurge. Pull or dig it out.


N.B. The plant exudes a milky sap when damaged. The sap is a severe irritant if applied to the skin. Supposed to be worse effects in bright sunlight. I get a nasty red rash of wet blisters if I cary an armfull of weeds containing them to a compost heap with bare arms.

When I do pull it I never seem to find the source root.

Each of the bracts produce seed , its easily pulled out .loosen the soil with a hand fork . But the milky sap can irritate the skin .
(I think it's from the euphorbia family.)

When we were kids the nature study teacher would tell us that it is an old wives tale but it works to remove warts .carefully break a little of the stem dab the milky sap only on the wart itself. And cover with a plaster.apparently it eventually burns off the unwanted growth!

 

Also any broken off root will start off another plant.
