I categorically cannot stand this behaviour - Police rescue dogs from 'blazing hot' car

I make no apology in saying that if I were to come across a car with dogs left shut inside in this heat, I would have any and all windows smashed in to get the animal out without hesitation. People that do this sort of thing should be locked in a car themselves, in full sun with the windows closed.

It happens every year and with children too. Totally thoughtless!

I saw a woman put her child in the boot of her car in Sainsbury's car park on Thursday!

Actually it was whilst she assembled the kid's push chair behind the car. The child was just standing in it. Seemed a sensible safety precaution.

Do these people think dogs are immune to heat? Or is it that they just don't care? They must have spent time shut up in there own cars and realise just how hot they get. There are also those that think the car won't overheat if it's a cloudy day or parked in shade.

I have witnessed 2 dogs die from heat stroke, 1 had been traveling in a car, windows open, the other had been running hard, Hare Coursing, this was in early 90s, it is VERY VERY distressing to witness, not to mention the poor dog dying.
I can name perhaps a dozen people we see, every day hail, rain and snow walking the dog, then we get the fair weather walkers, only appear in summer and walk round throwing a ball, the dog is chasing about, panting heavily and the owner thinks it`s fun. I have asked several why they don`t run too and see how they feel.

I despair at how thoughtless people can be with their animals and perhaps this latest case will highlight how dangerous it is to leave dogs in cars when it is hot and make dog owners think twice hopefully.
Years ago we took our children down to Alton Towers and the dog came with us. It was spring time and I never thought it would be so hot as to not be able to leave the dog in the car while we did some of the rides (intended to pop back to the car regularly to walk/check dog). It was a boiling hot day and the car park has no shaded areas at all. Nothing for it but the dog couldn't be left in the car so she came too. There was not an issue thankfully taking the dog into the amusement park (maybe there is now?) so she stood in the queues for the rides with me until we got to the front then she and I stood aside as the children went on the rides. If I had £ for the number of times I was asked if the dog was going on the rides I'd be very wealthy woman! ghits or just taking the p... I'm not sure:rolleyespink::)

It really gets on my wick to be honest. We go as far as leaving air conditioning on in the house for our dog whenever we have to go out and leave him for a wee while. When I had a car, I simply would not take him with us if there was any chance that we might have to stop anywhere when the weather was anything but cool - - or if we did, he would be getting out of the car with us and going for a wander.

There is no excuse for it.

PS,I only put the container in the flower bed to take the photo as the sun was so bright you couldn’t read the sign when it was on the grass:snorky:

We leave the fans on in our house. If we take the dogs out its either first thing in the morning or in the evening. Our furniture is leather (faux) and there is lino in the kitchen. There is a flap so they can come and go as they wish.

Year after year, even with warnings, dogs are left in hot vehicles to suffer. The only way to stop this is to ban dogs from being left in vehicles unless it has a cooling system that can be left on, similar to a refrigeration unit. If the owners are visiting places where the dog isn't welcome then leave it at home!

There have also been cases not in this country I don’t think where people have left their toddlers in the back of their cars forgetting that they haven’t dropped them off at nursery or just plain forgot that the child was in the car and have gone off to meetings etc for hours on end only to find the child has died when the temperature in the car has climbed up into the 80’s/90’s and the child has died. What an awful way to go strapped into the car seat with no way of being able to get out and suffering such an appalling death:yikes:

Perhaps they should strap the owners into the car in the heat for a few hours and see if it would teach them a lesson and to let them feel the pain their child felt before it died:sad:
