Banana Man's Jan 2009 Hideout Thread...

Well not a lot changes in my garden. Seasons come and go, and apart from a bit of tree shaping all is the same...just how I like it...............BUT today...........the sun came out :yho:

Here are a few snaps, could be any year really, but for those that enjoy the hideout threads here's a starter for 2009 :gnthb:

I have quite a bit of tidying to do, the wind seems to have deposited pots, watering cans and other plastic objects around the place:hehe: see if you can spot them :wink:

The bananas are a little worse for wear, but thems the breaks when you have no protection. This is jungle well'ard, if you can't stand the cold then please duly flop :lollol:

 

I can't believe how Fantastic and Green it all looks BM, And your Treeferns aren't Fleeced, My God, I wouldn't sleep Spotted your Bamboo canes, i was looking at some at the weekend, Started from £7.50..for the thin one's :o I need about 10 so ill have to save up :D Im starting a new Tropical border this spring :yho: maybe one day my garden will look a little bit like yours :gnthb: in my dreams... Oh and i spotted your watering can Dont leave it so long next time to post pics BM , monthly installments would be better ... Dee..:luv:

YDD - we don't fleece out treeferns either. Hubby keeps reminding me they are called "antartica" for a reason.... hmmm... but I did get worried this year with our inconvienient freeze - hasn't been that cold constantly since I've got into gardening!!!!! I did check them and they seem ok. But I did fleece our Bananas and a good job too.

Wonderful through all it's winter misery, Babe. Is that your Eriobotrya japonica in the first picture, bottom left? The neighbour has really cut his back to only about 15 foot, at least a third off them, plus width .... horrible fruit. :euw:

Roll on the spring, I want to cut the cherries right back and halve the Paulownia.

 

Last year I only wrapped the TF crowns but this year nothing was protected at all. My bananas do hate me but to be fair the stems that have flopped are over aged and would have flowered if i'd erected the Banana House. They shouldn't resort to suckers and I reckon a couple of foot is still ok in the main stems.

 

You never cease to amaze BM................You seem to be quite sheltered and have your very own micro-climate.

Have you thought about putting in a sound system to play jungle noises at night ?:D

 

Its still looking good BM, pity about the nanas, but I'm sure they are not totally dead.

The palms are looking pretty good though, so you could join the name changing trend that's occurring recently.:D

 

Don't let him fool you he has the whole garden surrounded with fan heaters all wired in to the street lights:D oh and the watering can is dead.
Now if only I could do that.

It's hard to believe the photos are of your garden in winter everything looks so well lush and after the terrible cold weather we have had too, you are a lucky devil getting away with not wrapping anything up.

I bet your neighbours are as jealous as sin as I know I am!:wink:
