Anyone watch it on BBC1 tonight? Very well made and thought provoking. I can't believe we don't have something like this here.
As has been oft quoted, if an animal has an incurable disease we do the decent thing, spare it pain and have it put to sleep, but its against the law to do the similar for ourselves.

Very moving Aaron, beautifully acted by all and totally believable. Far from being a coward, as suggested by her "friend", I think she was incredibly brave. She knew how much it would hurt her children but also how she would deteriorate in front of them, eventually being unable to make the decision. Should be compulsory viewing.

I haven't actually seen this yet although I did catch the brief discussion they had on BBC breakfast about it the other day and the family pointed out that her "friend" was actually one of the few fictional characters added:ywn:

    Such a sad story.
I thought it was wonderfully acted, it must be difficult when it's a true story.
I would like to think I would be able to do the same in her position.
    A very brave lady.
    I cried.

I've got this on my 'catch-up' list. I knew it would be good with Julie Walters in it, very emotive subject.

    cheers

I thought the acting was great. Julie Waters has certainly come up in my estimation. Many tears were shed.
I agree - there should be something similar here. People with terminal should be able to die , if they so want, when and how they wish.

    Sorry off subject
    Just thought I would mention.
I have just finished the Julie Walters Autobiography, That's Another Story.
If anyone likes her it's a good read .

I did not see the programme but am of the opinion that we should be allowed to choose how we end our lives in cases where a condition is going to be terminal anyway and that I'd rather die with some dignity then vegetate and be a burden.

What is worse is that friends/relatives who accompany someone to Switzerland can be prosecuted upon their return to the UK-there have been several high profile cases recently concerning this.
