We banned smoking in our house 54 years ago. Being a reformed smoker I am very anti-smoking in public. This is really more to do with me having a medical problem with it than being reformed. It must be something to do with the tobacco as I don't have any problem with bonfires.

Never smoked. I was a keen ballet student and if any smoked, it showed in their work immediately ie short of breath. And NEVER illegal drugs although had any been around I might have to get pain relief with the M.E . Was on wrongly prescribed Valium for years and the agony of getting off it ( no help from drs) put me off any addictive substance. Sheer hell on earth. Be warned! Pain relief is a different matter altogether. But recreational use? A mug's game

lol. I love peat /turf smoke too. I think it is the associations, and cigarette smoke has some bad associations for me.

I've just been to B&Q in Northwich today and bought 6 bales of 100 litre General Purpose Compost which was easy but then discovered that trying to get over 90lbs in weight 6 bales of compost into the rear of my Ford C Max told me that I'm :old::dunno::heehee:
I noticed that those 100 litre bales of compost used to be sold as 125 litre bales so I've bought 6 bales and "lost" 300 litres due to the new size while paying slightly more than I used to. Getting the bales out of the car, tomorrow, is easier as I use a Porters Trolley. I've already got 1600 litres of the bales stacked against the garage wall but I can use all that in a few months so, apart from wanting to see what the situation was in B&Q, I decided to grab some bales while I was there.

Easy, pete, I'm always buying some plant or other and in June/July there should be 16 new Bearded Iris that will have to go into at least 7.5 litre plastic pots or even larger clay/ceramic pots so we're talking 200 litres of compost. Also, this year, I'm sorting out which one of the already established Bearded Iris are repeats, giving them away if I can, and then replacing them with another order of more Bearded Iris, but not using the new Iris to replace them, so there's upwards of 200 to 300 litres being used there. Tomorrow I'm looking for a really large container of around 250 to 400 litres in which to plant a Wisteria Alba which has been sitting in a large plastic big bucket for around 5 years so that I can grow it against the South facing Garage wall. then there's all the other large and small pots with plants in that need potting on or the compost renewing plus all the other jobs that need compost to be used.:dunno::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Hi Strongy, yes, they have changed the size down to 100 litres but there probably is some 125 litres still in stock at some B&Q Stores but not at the Store in Northwich which were all the smaller 100 litre bales at £6.97p. The 125 litre bales weigh exactly 97 lbs but, to be honest, the 100 litre bale felt just as heavy, but I put that down to :old::heehee:

Well I thought I had loads of pots, and at times watering twice a day can become a chore, but I dont get through that amount of compost, I dont think, never really added it up.

But I buy 60 litre bags MPC, and 35 litre bags of JI, mix them with sand or grit usually.
And I buy as I use so maybe I do get through more than I realise.

I rarely pot anything, apart from bedding plants, in just MPC, it just not got enough body to last IMO.
