Thanks Mike you have explained our granddaughters condition better than I could have put it .
Stress seems to be a well known factor in this condition and covid has a lot to answer for.
Stress brings on an attack .

Thanks Mike for your reply. Please continue informing us about the reaction of your body to the vaccine.
So sorry for your granddaughter, Purple Streaks.
I agree with those who think that we should have had a proper lockdown from the very beginning in spring and now. I admire how the Chinese people reacted to Covid-19.
We all have a lot of problems and worries at the moment.
Cheer up please! We know it can't last forever.
According to fortune tellers and astrologers the situation will change for the better on 21.12.2020 and we'll have an excellent Christmas.

That marks the winter solstice, a day I really look forward to with a gradual return to longer daylight hours.

Me too, but there's bad news

"Owing to the pandemic, and in the interests of public health, there will be no Winter Solstice gathering at Stonehenge this year. "

@Mike Allen thank you for the information regarding thalassemia. I had never heard of it before. @Purple Streaks I hope your granddaughter stays safe. :fingers crossed:

Some of my grandchildren have been taking online classes since the beginning of this school year. One is getting better grades than when attending classes in person. In her case, there is another benefit. No bullying. She is tall for her age and going on 13 in February, you know that things are awkward enough at that age!

Another grandson is back to school but his class size is small and being autustic, none of them like getting near each other anyway. He wears a mask and loves the routine rather than any socializing.

Tablets were supplied to all students who couldn't afford one and also arrangements for WIFI were delivered. This made it possible for parents to opt in or out of the online program without worrying about economic feasibility. Opting in or out changes are only accommodated at the beginning of each term. Most kids these days already have a tablet or laptop so in the end, it wasn't a huge burden on the taxpayers.

I probably won't qualify for a shot until probably late next year. I figure by the time it's my turn, lots of herd immunity will be in place already.

And Sam is making lots of Christmas themed face masks (some with matching sleep masks;)) so we can spread some cheer!

I figure if the worst that happens to me and mine is that we need to continue with masks and keep hand washing, then eventually get a vaccination, we're lucky!

I figre I'll take my shot in the stomach area. I don't want to try to work with a sore arm and I only use my belly area as housing for chocolate bar and cookie storage :heehee:

Hi Lori, we have some coincidences here , granddaughter is same age ,also tall for her age and her birthday is in Feb too !!!!!

We wish she could continue to work from home, daughter is going to speak to doctor again.plus when an attack is coming on she goes a horrible opaque colour and her lips turn a blue tinge.
thankfully her teachers know the signs and keep an eye on her.
No one knows how she has this gene ,I just wish that their was medication to help .
One teacher suggested she go on iron tablets .But it's the last thing that would help , she has to be careful of iron overload which could be fatal.

But apart from all the doom and gloom she is happy and doesn't let it rule her life too much.
Thank you to everyone who has shown an intrest. X

It is unfortunate that many children suffer stress, bought about by differences of pesonalities etc. Recalling my days at school. Sadly I have basically a photographic memory. Trust me. I wish I hadn't. My form Master actually had wanted to be a vicar, so we often clashed due to differences of faith. Also for some for some reason, he would invite me to discuss/debate subjects in a more adult manner. Then I would so often get shouted down and reminded, I was just a child. Nevertheless, my exam results were good. Top of Form. English & Maths just below 100%. No stars in those days. So in many respects, there has been little change over the years.

I have to admit. I am familiar with Purple Streaks, granddaughter's problems. I take it as said. Any reference to a headache or whatever, and everyone suddenly beome, medical advisors. Taking up the rematk by the teacher. Iron tablets will only strengthen the iron content of the blood. Much the same way as vitamin suppliments. The blood is a very interesting and complicated part of our makeup.Far too complicated to discuss here. I am aware that the student in question, has alread a great interest in science. Truthfully. I have every confidence in her and offer my support.
