@Victoria , just thinking, are they actually putting covid positive people into hotels?

Only the people they are putting in there might not have life threatening symptoms but they could pass it on to hotel staff.

A good point but they do say throughout the article several times "with mild cases" but to be honest I do not know exactly what "mild" means. Another paragraph from the same article ...

"Not all hotels have conditions for isolation, especially if medical care is needed, but there are others where it is possible to adapt to the needs of mild patients and especially people in prophylactic isolation or medical personnel who cannot return home" , emphasizes the Pestana group, adding that it has been working "in close collaboration with the authorities to adapt to needs, case by case".

Personally, I wouldn't think they are allowed to run around nilly willy in the hotel. They are possibly confined to rooms which here are usually large with seating area and often balconies with sea views! Possibly nicer than one bedroom at home without bathing/toileting facilities.

I would "assume" hotel staff wear at least masks and gloves, perhaps disposable gowns and disposable cutlery and plates as was when I was in hospital.

Its just that hotels here are having to make quite large changes in order to accept even quarantine people from other countries who will have probably tested negative.

I can't reply to that scenario.

I just read that one of our small private hospitals in Lagos has turned over one floor of 12 single bed rooms which has an operating theatre to the SNS/NHS.

Sounds like the AZ vaccine is pretty much behind the times, its not very effective against the S. African strain.
Surely that strain is about to take over very soon in the UK.
They are working to tweak it, and it will be ready by the autumn.
Too late mate, there will be another strain around by then.

Correction: It is a floor with 28 beds and an operating theatre for NON-Covid patients so the SNS/NHS can continue with general situations.

This private hospital chain has also put testing stations in a couple that I know of their units, drive through I believe. It all helps.

My friend is a theatre sister in our local private hospital and during the first lockdown the complete ( smallish) hospital was handed to the NHS to transfer recovering ,non Covid, patients to, as did the local hotel......every bit helps, from lessening the burden put on overworked staff to freeing up much need beds.:dbgrtmb:

Some good news coming out from Israel - looks like they're leading the charge on a new type of treatment:

The Times of Israel reported on Friday that 29 of 30 Covid-19 patients offered this treatment left hospital within three to five days.

The treatment developed at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Medical Center has completed phase 1 trials and according to the hospital appears to have helped numerous moderate-to-serious cases of Covid-19 quickly recover from the disease.
