Its all very well testing new housing for air leakage but the government are telling us to ventilate, especially if you get visitors.

But seriously, we do need ventilation, not having any air changes in a building is, to my mind, pretty unhealthy.

I remember putting stuff under the front and back door, chimney that was open to the room, Crittal windows that on windy nights were as cold behind the curtains as it was outside.

I think we keep out houses warmer these days and heat the whole house instead of just two or three rooms.
Never had heating upstairs or in the hallway.

We don't have windows or outside doors open (except when we use the doors for going in and out of :heehee:) as the wildlife, and the local cats, seem to prefer our house to being outdoors. We're in and out frequently which gives some change of air and have extractor fans on when ever working in the kitchen or using the bathroom. Also we have a semi open chimney in the lounge.

We've never had heating upstairs either. :blue thumb: Oh, I forgot, we live in a bungalow! :roflol:

I'm in and out all the time, I cant remember ever staying in the house and not going out into the garden at some point during the day, even been going in and out during blizzards if only to feed the birds etc..
Just cant seem to stay indoors all day, living in a flat would drive me crazy not having my own outdoor space.

Just got round to seeing this JR, I think he's talking a lot of sense and worth waiting for the last 5 minutes, it all sounds so true.

Excellently presented. I said most of that earlier - but nowhere near as well as he does. :love30:

I just looked into the cost and efficiency and decided it was a no no! Too expensive, too noisy, doesn't work well, is only really worth it if your place is well insulated (Insulation Rebellion!:mad:) and you can put in underfloor heating and you don't get the subsidy up front!

I really liked the bit about getting letters or e mails at a later date saying, were you miss sold a heat pump back in the early 20s, make your claim here, or words to that effect.:roflol:

I hear ads on the radio all the time for 'mis-sold claiming' so it wouldn't surprise me if it did actually happen.

Ventilation is a issue for sure. In new builds in Scotland at least there has to be a CO2 monitor in the main bedroom to check air quality.

Heat pumps are fine if everything is designed properly, starting with the building fabric. Its not just a case of shoving in a heat pump. Hard to justify financially if already on natural gas.
