Sounds familiar. We served the potato salad with hot dogs on the 4th of July. Delish.

I've gone off meat sick.png I only eat fish now, and since Berly died I don't bother with Christmas dinner.
I don't want to go to any relations, they'll just get on my nerves, so I'll be having a nice piece of fresh salmon with new potatoes and peas

That's true. You always eat something meaty with your potato salad. Ideal would be a barbecue, but at Christmas you want something that's easy to make so Frankfurter sausages are a staple. Although in Germany we mostly call them 'Wiener" after the Austrian capital. And mustard and/or ketchup to go with the sausages.

Pre- pandemic, we would get to Germany a few times a year. One of the things that I enjoy there is what I term the "sausage culture." It reminds me of the old Monty Pthon spam sketch. The only difference being "you can have anything you want to eat, as long as it is sausage!" To sit in a beer garden, eating bratwurst and having a beer in the sun is so relaxing, and reminds me of times gone by.

          Apologies for drifting...

Christmas is very boring in our house. My wife works until 3pm. Until that time I have to keep my mother entertained. This year, my mum is critically I'll. Although we are expecting a trouble free Xmas and New Year, everything is up in the air. Assuming their are no further upsets between now an then, Xmas lunch will be chicken and traditional trimmings. My wife likes a traditional Xmas dinner.

For the last couple of years I've been trying to arrange a family gathering. Covid and work commitments have made it very difficult. If I can make it happen, I intend to provide a xmas lunch inspired buffet. I had a practice today. My wife enjoyed it so much, she asked for seconds.

Chicken poached in milk, roasted potato wedges, roasted vegetable salad and gravy made from the poaching milk. Add to that a plate full of pigs in blankets and a selection of savoury snacks and dips and I think we have the makings of a good xmas spread?

              G.

Does anyone here cook their sausages before wrapping them in Bacon ready for the oven?
I always cook them first, the same when making Toad in the Hole.

Not here. We use brown sugar to tell us when they sausages are cooked.

As an aside, we've recently started to make our own sausages here at Sandy Manor. So the old saying "God and the Butcher knows the contents of a sausage" is now "Only God, the Butcher and Sandy Ground know the contents of a sausage!"

We tend to spread ours out throughout the day as we don't usually eat a lot to be fair - to sit down to three courses in relatively quick succession would probably make us ill!

For starters/early lunch we are going with prawn cocktail (Mrs C & Little C love it - I will likely sit that one out as I am not a fishy sort of person), then for main we have a nice bit of Aberdeen Angus topside with roasties and associated veggies; later in the day we will attack the dessert which is a layered chocolate cake (I will be honest and say I don't even know what the layers are, but it looks gorgeous - I will take a photo of it tomorrow!) and for me it will be washed down with some cider as I am a lightweight these days and don't really do wines or spirits.

Picked up the free range turkey from my mates farm this morning.
Took it over my sisters which is actually nearer the farm than I am.

Got assaulted by the three dogs as usual:doggieshmooze: when I arrived, I'll take them some treats when I go over there again tomorrow for dinner.
